Risk factors for rosacea

The precise origin of the rosacea remains unknown, but it is known that various factors can make it worse or contribute to flare-ups of rosacea. This is particularly the case when:

  • an prolonged exposure to the sun or under tanning lamps. UVA rays cause blood vessels to dilate which, after a while, can become permanent. Heat also has a harmful effect: by dilating the vessels, it accentuates the effect of the rays;
  • abruptly temperature change ;
  • exposure to extreme weather conditions (cold, rain, heat, etc.);
  • of consumption hot drinks, spicy foods or alcohol;
  • de hormonal fluctuations (during pregnancy and menopause);
  • of strong emotions (anger, embarrassment, stress);
  • of taking corticosteroids (cortisone). Whether used as tablets or as an ointment, corticosteroids cause blood vessels to dilate and skin thinning, gradually making rosacea worse.
