Music of mobile phones… An encounter with sounds of different tonalities, volumes and frequencies awaits us at any time, sometimes in the most inappropriate place: subway, theater, hospital… What do these melodies say about our friends, fellow travelers and ourselves? Is there a pattern in which melody we choose? Our experts answer this question.
“Choosing a melody for a call is certainly one of the ways of self-expression,” says psychotherapist Gleb Lozinsky. “With the help of this melody, we demonstrate our preferences and the properties of our nature,” adds psychologist Natalya Izbutskaya. – Often this melody is a projection of our unconscious desires and unfulfilled needs. For example, if a timid person chooses “Murka” as a ringtone, this may, on the one hand, speak of his repressed aggressiveness, and on the other hand, demonstrate hidden dashing or adventurism. Classics can indicate both a penchant for conservatism and a desire to belong to the circle of educated people. Vitally active people change hot hits like gloves, this allows them to feel in the role of master of the situation. Traditionalists and fans of certain brands leave the standard brand melodies. So do those who use the phone exclusively for its intended purpose. By the way, branded melodies annoy us less: they are familiar and do not cause unexpected, distracting associations. But why are we so often pissed off by the sounds of other people’s phones? “Any call in some sense violates our personal boundaries,” says Natalya Izbutskaya. – It’s like an order: “Tighten up! Take a break from what you’re doing right now.” Therefore, a feeling of protest arises involuntarily. “Many of us have a large circle of friends, and often we simply do not have enough emotional strength and curiosity in relation to other people,” adds Gleb Lozinsky. To protect yourself and those around you, you should choose a soft and neutral melody, our experts advise.
And musicologists – all the same, the classics *. Even the chords of Mozart or Chopin, distorted by mechanical sound, carry with them a harmonious world of sounds collected in a physiologically comfortable rhythm.
