Rice dishes, National Contest and Gastronomic Days

The I National Rice Competition of the City of Torrevieja arrives tomorrow at the Tourism Center of the Alicante town.

May 14 has been the day chosen by the organizing committee of the competition, made up of representatives of the official bodies of the LA Valencia Tourism Agency, the local council and the hospitality association (AEHTC).

The dissemination objective of the contest ranges from the award to the dissemination of local products and their elaborations, to promote the tourist activity of the region, which in this pre-festival season is just as interesting as in the middle of August.

To know the best rice in the region, two modalities will be established within the contest, one of Promises and other Professional, where they will prepare the rice corresponding to each category of the contest:

  • Torrevieja Rice Category, in its variety of “Arroz Caldero”, where mandatory ingredients must be used (Bomba rice, onion, garlic, tomatoes, leeks, saffron, ñoras, salt, pepper, parsley, olive oil, rock fish and bay fish

    (golden, hen, grouper or raven). 

  • Category Free rice, where the ingredients and the creativity of the producer will be the values ​​to take into account for its recognition and of course fill them in the previous registration.

They are waiting for succulent prizes for the participants, ranging from the paid internship in a restaurant in the city to the winner of the promise modality, to the cash prizes de 1.500 euros, 600 euros and 400 euros for the first, second and third classified respectively in each of the two categories of the contest.

Gastronomic days around the land and sea of ​​Torrevieja

In order to taste the best elaborations of the local establishments, from May 18 to May 24, an interesting exhibition will be held that brings together local restaurateurs at the event. “Rice from Torrevieja”.

Typical dishes such as rice, those days will coexist with octopus, anchovies and other delicacies from the sea, which together with the nearby garden make the agro-food ecosystem of the area, a paradise for cooks.

The climate accompanies this time of year, and the consumption or tasting of the culinary creations of the local gastronomy will be presented in all its exponent. Sun, Beach and Good Table.

Some thirty hotel establishments are already prepared to receive visitors from next Monday, to offer them dishes and menus that will range from 18 euros for the cheapest to 30 euros for the most select.
