Rice diet
Those who have tried to lose weight at least once in their lives have probably heard about the rice diet. This diet is rightfully considered one of the most effective. After all, it allows you to lose extra pounds in just 2-4 weeks.

The rice diet was developed in 1939 by the German scientist Walter Kempner. Studying the effect of diet on various diseases, he found that people who eat rice dishes are less likely to suffer from hypertension, diabetes and obesity.

Benefits of the Rice Diet

The basis of the rice diet is to reduce the intake of calories, fat, carbohydrates and proteins. Rice contains a large amount of amino acids, vitamins and minerals. At the same time, this product provides satiety with a low number of calories.

One of the beneficial properties of rice is the ability to remove excess salt and water from the body. And it is especially useful for those who suffer from an excess of salts in the body, such as gout, osteophytes (salt deposits on cartilage), and arterial hypertension. This is due to the fact that salt retains fluid in the body, and this increases the load on the heart and leads to arterial hypertension.

Rice contains fiber, which is useful for normalizing digestion, removing toxins from the body and losing weight. The absence of gluten in rice makes it acceptable for people with hypersensitivity to this substance.

Nutritionists believe that brown (unpolished) rice is more useful in composition. It undergoes minimal processing, so more nutrients are retained in the shell of the grains. According to the length of the grain, the most useful is the long-grained. It contains the highest amount of fiber.

Cons of the rice diet

However, the rice diet has a number of disadvantages:

  • together with water, rice can remove useful potassium salts;
  • the rice diet is low in calories and most of the time you will feel hungry;
  • the lack of proteins in rice affects the normal development and functioning of muscles, and as a result, they are depleted;
  • long-term use of rice can cause constipation.

The results

Following a rice diet for a week, you can lose 3-4 kg. In addition to extra pounds, toxins, excess fluid and salt leave the body. The fiber contained in rice normalizes digestion and metabolism. If you limit yourself to only rice for a week, without adding vegetables and fruits, you can lose 10 kg. However, it is quite dangerous for health.

There is an opinion that losing weight on a rice diet is quite deceptive, and weight loss occurs mainly due to the removal of fluid from the body. And it returns to the body immediately after you start eating salt. That is, the effect of the rice diet is short-term. Therefore, it is best to sit on it before some important event.

Rice diet is contraindicated:

  • Children and adolescents, as their bodies continue to grow and develop. This requires all the necessary nutrients;
  • Pregnant and lactating. The body of women during these periods is most vulnerable.
  • Patients with chronic diseases. For them, a special therapeutic diet food has been developed.

Dietitian Reviews

– The rice diet, like most other diets, can be used in the short term for quick results. However, it should be noted that weight loss on a rice diet occurs mainly due to the removal of excess fluid from the body. Together with the liquid, rice removes toxins from the body. That is why rice is included in the diet of patients with food poisoning and intoxication. It is important to remember that the effect of the rice diet is not long-term. At the end of the diet, the body will quickly begin to gain weight again, notes dietitian Elena Solomatina.
