Rhododendron Adams

Rhododendron Adams

Rhododendron Adams is a low, up to 50 cm, shrub, which, under favorable conditions, remains green all year round. They can decorate both a garden and a home windowsill. In addition, the plant has many beneficial properties and is used in traditional medicine recipes.

The propagation of evergreen flowering shrubs occurs with the help of seeds. With the arrival of the first spring days, they are planted in a pre-prepared seedling container filled with peat and sand. The soil is pre-moistened well.

After planting the seeds, the container is covered with foil and placed in a warm, sunny place. Every day you need to open the film for several hours to ventilate and, if necessary, spray the soil with water from a sprayer.

This variety begins to bloom only 8 years after planting.

After a month, all the seeds should germinate, and when 2 leaves are formed on the stem, the flower is planted in individual pots for growing in a greenhouse during the first year. Seedlings of Adams’ rhododendron are planted in open ground the next year.

Growing rhododendron Adams

Caring for a flower during the growing process cannot be called difficult. It does not require special conditions and efforts.

The main manipulations when growing rhododendron include:

  • Watering. The flower needs soft water, so rain or settled water is suitable. Artificial softening can be achieved with high-moor peat. It is added to the water 20-24 hours before watering in the amount of several handfuls. The state of its foliage will tell you how often the plant should be watered. If she lost her turgor and became dull, it’s time to moisten the soil. Moisture should penetrate 30 cm deep into the soil, but at the same time not accumulate at the root system, as this can lead to waterlogging.
  • Spraying the green part of the plant. In hot, dry weather, the flower needs additional moisture. The plant tolerates waterlogging of the deciduous part better than stagnant moisture in the soil.
  • Weeding. To preserve the decorative effect of the bush and the health of its root system, weeds must be constantly removed. This must be done exclusively by hand, without the use of special devices, since the root system of the flower is close to the surface. For the same reason, you cannot loosen the soil around the rhododendron.
  • Top dressing of the soil. In one summer season, you need to fertilize at least 2-3 times. The first procedure is carried out in the first spring month, then repeated in June and ends after flowering, at the end of July. The flower perceives the liquid form of fertilizers better. The ideal option is cow dung flooded with water for several days.
  • Pruning. The bushes of the plant have the correct shape, but if you wish, you can correct it, remove dry or frozen fragments. The procedure should be carried out at the very beginning of spring. In order for the plant to bloom profusely every year, you need to remove each faded bud, saving the power of the flower for the formation of new buds.

Shrubs are often exposed to pests. To combat them and for prevention purposes, it is recommended to use specialized protective equipment in early spring and late autumn.

The Adams variety will become a real decoration of the garden, give it a well-groomed appearance and bring notes of tenderness. And thanks to the simplicity of growing and caring for a flower, it can become one of the gardener’s favorites.
