Rexetin – composition, action and applications

Rexetin is a drug in the form of film-coated tablets used in the treatment of depression, anxiety disorders as well as obsessive compulsive disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

The composition of the Rexetin preparation

The active ingredient in Rexetin is paroxetine.

Action of Rexetin

Rexetin acts on the nervous system to relieve symptoms such as anxiety and depression of all origins. Rexetin belongs to the group of serotonin reuptake inhibitors. It extends the time of serotonin action in the synapse and the time of stimulation of the receiving cell, which has an antidepressant effect (improves mood).

Indications for the use of Rexetin

Rexetin is used to treat the symptoms of depression of various origins. It is also used in the treatment of anxiety associated with depression and in the obsessive compulsive disorder. Rexetin is also administered to patients suffering from panic disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Rexetin contraindications

Rexetin is intended for adults. It is not used to treat children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Rexetin is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to paroxetine or other ingredients of the preparation, suffering from glaucoma, kidney or liver disorders, epilepsy, cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.

Rexetin should not be taken together with drugs from the group of MAO inhibitors, toridazine, antiepileptic drugs, lithium preparations, oral anticoagulants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and preparations containing St. John’s wort.

Rexetin is not recommended for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Side effects of Rexetin

Like all drugs, Rexetin can cause side effects and adverse reactions. The most common symptoms are nausea and sexual dysfunction. The following may also occur: loss of appetite, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, sleep disturbances (excessive sleepiness or insomnia), dizziness and headache, tremors, visual disturbances, sweating, excessive weight gain, agitation, anxiety, nightmares , states of confusion.

Usually these symptoms disappear when you stop taking Rexetin.

Conversely, if you experience symptoms such as hyperthermia, muscle stiffness, muscle clonic seizures, lability of the autonomic nervous system and changes in mental status (including delirium and coma) during treatment with Rexetin, contact your doctor immediately.

How is Rexetin used?

The duration of the treatment with Rexetin and the frequency of its use is determined by the doctor.

The usual dose is 20 mg Rexetin (1 tablet) a day, if necessary, the doctor may increase this dose, but for a period not longer than 4 weeks. The maximum dose of Rexetin is 40 mg daily.

The drug should be taken once a day, preferably in the morning, with a meal. Swallow the tablets whole with a drink of water.

Precautions when using Rexetin

Alcohol must not be consumed during therapy with Rexetin, as it may increase the effects of the preparation.

The treatment with Rexetin must not be stopped suddenly – the drug should be discontinued gradually, reducing the dose.

You should not drive or operate machinery while taking Rexetin. The drug may cause drowsiness, dizziness and visual disturbances which may be dangerous when performing these activities.

Rexetin should not be used after the expiry date stated on the package. The preparation should be stored at room temperature in a tightly closed container, out of the sight and reach of children.
