Return to Medieval Gastronomy in Siguenza

The town of Alcarria these days celebrates the medieval gastronomic contest that will become a tourist attraction of international scope.

El VIII local contest of pinchos and medieval tapas of Sigüenza, is already underway with all the modern infrastructure to recreate the best medieval bites, in which it will be known as “Santos García Verdes Memorial ” in honor of the chef of the same name who now passed away two years ago.

During the following two weekends, on June 20 and 21 and 27 and 28, 8 hospitality establishments in the town will take us to the past of the Doncel city in its gastronomic aspect.

Each establishment will prepare its tapa or pincho with rigorous recreation and in the free style of the culinary avant-garde that each one chooses, where we can see confit suckling pig, mushroom pâtés as a filling of ancestral products based on chickpea and turmeric flour, eggplant caviar or beet tartare, onion, chives and vinaigrette made with old mustard, along with olive oil, among others.

The creativity of the culinary elaborations, you will not forget the characters that have forged the history of the municipality, from the famous Maiden, to the most relevant figures of the Clergy who spent their days evangelizing the population with greater or lesser success, but who left their mark on the scrolls and the stoves, as a simile of the good eating of the bishops of the time.

Culinary modernity without neglecting tradition of the food and accompaniments of the dishes prepared by the catering establishments:

  • La Granja de Alcuneza Restaurant
  • Restaurante Milan
  • Cafeteria Paris
  • Cafeteria El Atrio
  • Parador cafeteria
  • Alameda Bar
  • Bar La Ermita
  • Gurugú de la Plazuela

The price set by the organization for each variety of pincho will be € 2,50 pincho, along with a beer or glass of wine.

During the days of the tasting, it is possible to participate in the choice of the favorite for the diner through the ballots that will be delivered in the establishments and will be sealed when consuming in them, entering a draw for the disinterested contribution and subsequent verdict of the jury of the gastronomic contest.

The winner of the contest will be the local representative in the International Competition of Medieval Skewers and Tapas which will also be held in Sigüenza in autumn, on October 3 and 4 of this year, and of which we will give special mention as soon as the call and subsequent celebration approaches.
