There are more and more elderly people in the world who require regular or continuous medical assistance due to their health condition. Such people are mainly opposed by local governments and non-governmental organizations, which offer professional care to elderly people in social care homes (DPS). In order to get to the center, you need to fill in the documents, the reliability of which is verified by a social worker who conducts an environmental interview. A person admitted to SCC is usually very ill, often unable to move independently. On the other side, there are private retirement homes, where it is easier to find a place than in an overcrowded state nursing home.
State retirement home – fees for the stay
An important issue when choosing a state retirement home is the cost of living, which is 70% of the patient’s income. It may be higher in people with advanced cancer and those who do not get out of bed. Instead of the sick person, the agreed amount may be paid by the spouse and his children, if their joint income exceeds 250%. There is no need to pay for medical care, the cost of which is fully covered by the National Health Fund (NFZ).
Retirement home – the cost of staying in a private facility
The cost of staying in a private retirement home is definitely higher. Everything depends on the health of the patient. Usually it starts from PLN 2 to PLN 3 per month. Renting a single room may even exceed PLN 3. A private facility usually does not cover additional costs such as bandages or gauze.
Retirement home – what to consider when choosing?
Often, the most important issue that determines the choice of a facility is the patient’s income, as well as the financial assistance of the family. However, this is not the only aspect that is worth paying attention to. First of all, you should check what the medical care in a given center looks like, whether it is possible to bring an ambulance. The comfort and safety of patients is also important, as they should have appropriate buttons in each room to call for medical assistance. In addition, it is worth buying a senior a special wristband that will also let the staff know if something happens. Before we decide on a particular center for seniors, it is worth reading opinions about it on the Internet or talking to friends who also had to choose such a facility for a loved one.
Retirement home – is it the only solution?
A private and public retirement home is not the only solution. Many older people do not want to leave their place of residence. If a senior does not require constant medical care, he or she may opt for emergency assistance from the center when performing everyday activities (cleaning or shopping). Especially if family members live far away.
