There is an old joke about a person who dreams of retiring and doing nothing at all for the first two or three months, just sitting in a rocking chair. «And then?» they ask him. «And then I’ll start rocking!» the dreamer answers. The only danger of this state is to start “swaying” in time, because complete rest and doing nothing is addictive so that it becomes scary to move a leg or arm, to leave the house, the usual distances seem unrealistically huge … And old age approaches. Often it is upon retirement that a person enthusiastically takes up the implementation of one or another idea, whether it is repairing an apartment, breeding dwarf rabbits, or system programming. The main thing is to really like the business: it will open a second wind. Favorite pastime, clubs, acquaintances by interests — and life is immediately filled with new meaning and takes on colors. In addition to benches at the entrance, there are many places where people of retirement age can meet, relax, and spend their free time. Interest clubs, various courses, dance classes … In America and Europe, many retirees are enthusiastic about dancing, sports, yoga, etc. Today, fortunately, all this comes to Russia, and it is no longer considered shameful to discover a new sphere of life at the age of 60.
By the way, sometimes pensioners leading an active and healthy lifestyle find themselves working with the younger generation: for example, they train yard football teams, go hiking with teenagers …
Take care of your health
Do not forget that a man of retirement age should be attentive to his health. This does not mean at all that the time has come to drink handfuls of pills, complain to each interlocutor about “rheumatism” and settle in a clinic. Just pay attention to this pattern. It often happens that a whole bunch of illnesses falls on a person in the very first years of retirement, which he simply does not have time to treat. But before he considered himself quite healthy. Why is this happening? The answer is simple: when a person worked, he lived according to a strict regimen: early rises, physical and mental stress … Once you “let go of yourself”, relax, start sleeping regularly until dinner, lead a sedentary lifestyle, eat up at night — and here you have a collection of diagnoses. Because such violence against the body does not pass without a trace even for a twenty-year-old. Regular exercise, jogging or, say, swimming in the pool will help to avoid such an unenviable fate. And excellent health and good mood will be a reward for efforts.

And, of course, the most important thing in a person’s life is his family. Wife, children, grandchildren. They all still need your help and support. Sitting with your grandchildren or helping your wife with the housework — all this does not at all lower the authority of a man.
And most importantly, you should always remember that retirement does not change a person, he still remains himself. A few lines in a document cannot change everything at once. Experience and knowledge, hobbies and talents, family and friends — everything that makes up the concept of «life» has not disappeared anywhere. There is simply more time that you can spend on yourself and on those who are dear to you.
