Psychology
Second installment: Five styles of reaction to adversity, how to detect which one we have and how to act
La adversity it is inherent to life and since we will have to face it several times throughout our lives; This is precisely why it is interesting that we have a strategy to transform it into a challenge. The problems they block us and challenges activate us.
Before a straight We are ready to give the best of ourselves, we activate all our creativity and we have a clear objective to which to direct all our energy. But how to transform an adversity into a challenge? Well, here are ten keys that will be of great help to you. But before reading them, listen to the video that you can find below these lines in which I explain why it benefits you to turn adversity into a
challenge.
1. Don’t run from adversity
Face it, the sooner the better. Adversity will always be there, waiting for you, so the sooner you deal with it, the sooner it will disappear. Take an active role in solving adversity.
2. Do not fall into impotence
Sometimes we think we can’t do anything and we forget that there are always more options than we think. You need distance to analyze them and calm to be able to put them into practice. When we fall into impotence, we think worse, our creativity is clouded and we focus on only one alternative: flight.
3. Find an outlet for your emotions
Finding an outlet for your emotions will help you release tension and regain strength. Regenerate, the war with adversity is not won in a single battle. Create opportunities to experience positive emotions as they will allow you to regenerate and regain your much-needed perspective. It is not so important if you are to blame for what happened or not, as if you are willing to manage what happened and learn from what happened.
4. Fix your attention on the long term
We often give too much importance to the short term and end up dismissing good solutions because they involve some discomfort or short term effort. The best decisions are good in the long term but uncomfortable in the short term. Define how you want to see yourself, that will be the best of your motivations.
5. Focus your energy on the short term
Step by step, making decisions as you go. Managing adversity requires action, take the first steps, you may be disoriented, nothing happens, start walking.
6. Accept what cannot be changed
And once you accept what cannot be changed focus your energy on what can be changed. Channel your energy towards your goal.
7. Analysis tu diálogo interno
It is possible that your internal dialogue is blocking you and causing a lack of confidence and insecurity. There is no reason why you should not be able to overcome that challenge, but until you believe it you will not get going.
8 Make your own decisions
Do it knowing that everything requires a process and a time. From calm, from serenity, take action focused on achieving your challenge. Solving a problem requires yes or yes that you make some decisions, some of them uncomfortable. Be the one who takes the initiative and the helm of your life and starts by making your own decisions.
9. Cultivate optimism
Make no mistake, an optimistic attitude has nothing to do with a delusional attitude. A deluded person believes that everything will be solved by magic, while an optimistic person knows that he can be part of the solution of the problem and that he is capable of responding to the adversities that he suffers.
10. Treat adversity as an opportunity
That will help you learn and reorient your life. An adversity is sometimes the result of bad luck, but sometimes it is the consequence of some actions, schemes or ideas. Perhaps the time has come to rethink the way you are living, the decisions you make, the ones you stop making, the people you are close to or the priorities by which you govern your life.
