Reproduction of raspberries in spring by cuttings
Reproduction of raspberries helps to increase the number of plantings of this delicious berry, breed the variety you like and simply update the plants on the site. One of the simplest, but at the same time effective, methods is grafting.
Preparation for propagation of raspberries by cuttings
Propagation by cuttings has its advantages. The plant will have time to develop and get stronger over the summer, so a young seedling has an increased chance of overwintering without damage. Moreover, if during autumn propagation mainly root and woody cuttings are used, then at the beginning of the season young shoots are better suited.
Propagation of raspberries by cuttings is best done on a cloudy day. After examining the raspberry bushes, select healthy green shoots and carefully cut them with a sharp knife 2 cm below ground level. If necessary, the top of the future seedling should be shortened: its length should be about 7-10 cm. After that, the cutting is immersed in a special agent that stimulates root growth for 12 hours, which can be chosen at a flower or gardening store.
Then it’s time to plant the cuttings in containers or separate containers. For this, any universal soil or fertile soil from the garden is suitable. Build a mini greenhouse to maintain high humidity and a suitable temperature. For plants to take root faster, they need an air temperature of +23 + 25 ° С. The greenhouse must be ventilated periodically to avoid excessive condensation. Moderate watering is also required. The rooting process lasts about a month, and then the cuttings are planted in open ground.
Planting and caring for raspberry seedlings
The best place for raspberries on the site is not swamped, with enough diffused sunlight. This plant does not tolerate stagnant water well. For planting rooted cuttings, holes or trenches are dug. The distance between seedlings should be at least 70 cm, and between rows – 2 m.
Compost can be used as fertilizer.
The plant is placed in a hole and the roots are covered with earth. The root collar should be at ground level. Then the soil is watered and mulched. Further care for young plantings consists in timely moistening of the soil, feeding with organic matter and complex mineral fertilizers.
Reproduction of raspberries by cuttings in spring takes place in three stages: preparation of planting material, rooting and planting in open ground. If you do everything right, the next year the seedlings will grow to fruiting bushes.
