A common problem is the failure of the thermostat or thermostat. You can replace the thermostat in the refrigerator yourself – a step-by-step guide is presented below.
How the thermostat works
Let’s make a reservation right away that the thermostat has automatic control, while the thermostat is manual. This is what distinguishes the two parts, but the principle of their operation is similar: both control the temperature in the refrigerator chamber.
A capillary tube filled with refrigerant is attached to the thermostat housing. As soon as the temperature in the compartment begins to rise, pressure rises in the tube, which causes the start-up relay to trip. This starts and stops the compressor.
The spring plays an important role in the design of the thermostat. Tension and relaxation of the spring due to manual switching allows you to change the temperature in the chamber. This is how the temperature controller works in manual refrigerators, for example, Atlant, Indesit, Biryusa.
Modern refrigeration equipment (Stinol, Nord, Veko) has built-in electronic thermostats. They consist of sensors and a control module. Replacing the electronic sensor with a new one requires special knowledge, so we advise you to call the master.
Where is the thermostat
The part can be located inside and outside the case. With an internal arrangement, the regulator is located behind a plastic box, on the wall of the compartment. For replacement, the control knob is removed, and then the protective panel.
With an outdoor location, the thermostat is located mainly above the door. You should focus on the temperature switch knob.
Signs of breakage
There are several external signs by which you can guess about problems with the thermostat:
- the refrigerator does not freeze;
- the motor runs without stopping;
- snow and ice build up on the walls of the chamber.
You can check it yourself. To do this, disconnect the equipment from the network, perform a defrost. Then set the regulator to full power and connect the refrigerator. Put a thermometer in the chamber. If after 2 hours the thermometer showed 6-7 degrees, then everything is in order. If not, repair is required.
For what reasons can a snow coat grow in the department? The thermostat is defective and the module does not receive a signal about the temperature in the chamber, so the cooling does not stop.
We will tell you how to properly replace the thermostat with your own hands. After all, the price of one part is much lower than the cost of a complete repair in a service center.
Thermostat Replacement Procedure
Before proceeding with the repair, unplug the refrigerator, empty the shelves from food and defrost. Take flat and Phillips screwdrivers, pliers.
Be sure to purchase a thermostat for your refrigerator model. You can find out how much the item costs in the online store.
- Open the chamber door.
- Remove the temperature control knob by prying it out with a flathead screwdriver.
- Behind it is the thermostat shaft.
- Loosen the shaft nut with pliers and unscrew it.
- Loosen the housing bolt.
- Pull the case down, detaching from the wall.
- On the inside you will see a thermostat.
- Push the part out of place and note the wiring connectors. You can take a picture of them in order to make the correct connection in the future.
- Disconnect the wiring from the thermostat by opening the latches on some of them.
- Before removing the part, check that the capillary that is attached to it normally exits the housing.
- Remove the sleeve with the capillary from the old thermostat and place it in the new one.
Replacement is carried out in the reverse order.
This is how you can independently cope with the repair and replacement of the temperature controller. You can take pictures or film all your actions, which will help you get the equipment back faster in the future.
