Equipment has a limited service life – the same applies to instantaneous water heaters. Replacing the geyser may be necessary when installing a new model or when transferring the current one to another location during repairs. Legislative norms require compliance with the regulations, which is why it is necessary to call a specialist to carry out the work. From this article, you will learn what documents you need to collect, what steps to go through in order to transfer gas equipment to a new location without any problems.
When should equipment be replaced?
The old column can be replaced with a new one in the following cases:
- The technique doesn’t work.
- The main components are worn out and cannot be repaired.
- The outdated model does not suit, I want a technique that suits the design.
Installation of a column in a private house, apartment should be carried out by a company that has a license. This also applies to the transfer of equipment from one room to another. There is a fine for self-connection, and besides, it is dangerous.
Building codes can’t be ignored.
Before considering whether to transfer the appliance from the kitchen to the bathroom or vice versa, check out the requirements for the room in accordance with SNiP 42-01-2002 and SP 42-101-2003. The following conditions must be met:
- Ceiling height from 2,5 meters.
- The volume of the room is not less than 7,5 m³.
- Be sure to have windows and vents for ventilation and ventilation.
- The presence of a ventilation hole.
- Placement above the gas stove is prohibited, the distance between them is at least 10 cm.
- The presence of a doorway in width from 0,7 meters. If there is a door below, there must be a gap of at least 5 cm.
- Installation is carried out on a wall made of brick or concrete (non-combustible materials).
- Mandatory supply of water and gas lines.
- The presence of a chimney with a diameter of 110–130 cm (for an open chamber).
- The distance from the floor is at least 1 meter.
- Only vertical mounting.

How is the replacement
If the appliances were previously located in the bathroom and you do not want to transfer them, then you can install a new model in place of the old one. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the quality of ventilation of the room and the distance of the housing from the water.
You need to start with the preparation and collection of documents. What will be required:
- Permission to replace equipment.
- The project, where the layout of water and gas mains is indicated.
- The conclusion of the fire inspection on the condition of the chimney.
- Documents for new equipment. If it has not yet been purchased, you can specify the model.
- Application to the gas service for the replacement of the device, with the safety of the place.
- Application for permission to work with a gas pipeline.
The same requirements apply when placing a gas boiler. In this case, the best place to install would be the kitchen. If all the documents are available, a specialist will go to the place and carry out the work.
What is the cost of the services of an employee of the company? Depending on the model, the price can range from 3000 to 5000 rubles. Dismantling will cost 300-800 rubles. Additional costs may be required for materials, replacement of defective parts, plumbing work.
How is everything going? It all starts with dismantling, otherwise you will not be able to install a new heater. You should know that such work can be done with your own hands – this is not prohibited. At the same time and save a few hundred rubles.
- Shut off the gas supply valve.
- Using an adjustable wrench, disconnect the gas hose from the housing.
- Substitute a container and disconnect the water hose.
- Disconnect the flue pipe.
- Remove the cover and unscrew the fasteners.
- Remove the column.
Here’s how to properly install:
- If necessary, prepare the wall, lay insulation, replace fasteners. The choice of mounts depends on the weight of the device. Often included are dowels, anchors.
- Make markings on the wall for fasteners.
- Drill holes with a drill and insert dowels.
- Hang the case.
- Connect a new chimney. The easiest to install stainless steel corrugated pipes. They withstand high temperatures, are reliable and tight. Push one end onto the housing pipe, and lead the other to the chimney. Fasten the joints with clamps (read: “Corrugation for a column“).
- Connect flexible water hose. Choose the length in advance so that there are no unnecessary connections.
- Connect the gas hose.
- Check the strength of the connection by lubricating them with soap suds. There are bubbles – there is a leak.
- Attach the cover at the end.
Transfer features
The complexity of organizing the transfer depends on the distance between the old place and the desired one. The easiest way is if the distance does not exceed 1,3 meters. Then almost nothing needs to be changed. But if the transfer is carried out to another room, this already leads to a change in the highway. Therefore, you need to collect the same documents as in the case of the initial installation:
- Certificate of the technical condition of the chimney (issued by the fire department).
- Installation project according to new schemes.
- Permission to redevelop the premises (for municipal apartments).
- Documents confirming that you are the owner of the apartment.
- Technical passport for the column.
Have you collected a package of documents? Now go to Gorgaz. From there, a specialist will come to you and carry out all the work. Upon completion, he must seal the meter and issue an act of commissioning. Do not forget to inform the BTI about the change in the placement of equipment.
It is recommended to mount the equipment in the kitchen, although there are also no prohibitions for using the bathroom. However, for this you need to have a spacious bathroom, and not a typical cramped room. Otherwise, there will be no normal ventilation and the ability to hang the device away from water.
To keep your new device running as long as possible, follow our recommendations:
- Conduct preventive maintenance checks on time. At least once a year.
- Choose a heating temperature of no more than 55 degrees. This will reduce the formation of scale. This also applies to mixing water in taps. Adjust the settings so that when the hot tap is opened, the temperature is comfortable.
- Use cleaning filters to reduce the concentration of impurities in the water.
Replace equipment according to the rules to operate the water heater safely. Recently, cases of unauthorized installations have become more frequent, which leads to litigation. Do not endanger your life and the lives of those close to you!
