Removing nail polish stains from clothes: tips
Removing varnish with acetone
It is advisable to remove the stain planted with varnish immediately, without letting it dry. Before removing nail polish from clothes with acetone, check the material for color fastness: drop a little acetone on an unobtrusive part of the clothes and wait 7-10 minutes. If the color of the fabric does not change, there is no need to worry about the clothes.
Soak a cotton ball in acetone, then place it on the spot and leave it on for 7-10 minutes. Then gently rub the stain. If you failed to remove it on the first attempt, repeat the procedure again. Then wash the product: this way you will remove the unpleasant smell of acetone and refresh your clothes.
It is not recommended to remove varnish stains with acetone from fluorescent fabrics
How to remove varnish stain from colored fabric at home
Use the following products to remove varnish from colored fabrics: – kerosene, – gasoline, – a cloth, – baby powder or talcum powder, – denatured alcohol, – a cotton pad.
In this case, do not use acetone: it will lighten the area of clothing where the stain is placed, which means it will ruin the fabric. Take a cloth, soak it in gasoline or kerosene, and scrub the stain thoroughly. Then sprinkle this place with baby powder or talcum powder, leave it for 1,5–2 hours, and then wash the clothes using washing powder.
A similar result is obtained by using denatured alcohol. Soak a cotton ball in alcohol and wipe the varnish stain with it (do this slowly, moving slowly from the edges to the middle of the stain). Perform all these manipulations from the seamy side of the garment, and attach a white cloth to the front side. When the stain has completely disappeared, wash the product.
How to remove nail polish stain on white fabric yourself
To cope with this problem at home, mix equal proportions of white cosmetic clay or crushed chalk with refined gasoline. Apply the resulting paste to the stain and leave until the gasoline evaporates completely. Then, shake off any leftover product from the clothes and wash them.
Fighting water-based varnish stains
Try to wash the stain as soon as possible. Prevent the polish from drying out: After drying, the water-based nail polish forms a hard stain that is very difficult to remove. If after washing, you still have a barely noticeable mark, treat the stain with oxygen bleach or remove it with a stain remover. Wash this item after 6-8 minutes.
Removing aluminum powder residues from clothing
Often aluminum powder is present in the composition of nail polish. Use glycerin to remove residue from the fabric. Apply some glycerin to the stain on the fabric, then soak the garment in warm soapy water for several hours. Then gently rub the stains and wash the product.
