Removal of prostate adenoma

Prostate adenoma is a male disease that is accompanied by the formation of a benign node in the tissues of the prostate gland. The node increases in size over time and blocks the urethra. Today, this urological disease is visualized in almost every second man over 50 years old. It is worth noting that the age of the disease is decreasing, and the number of men suffering from prostate adenoma is growing inexorably.

Symptoms of the disease

The presence of prostate adenoma is accompanied by frequent urge to urinate, a feeling of an empty bladder, a weak rate of urine outflow, and additional efforts to start urination.

The main reason for the manifestation of these symptoms is the formation of a node that blocks the prostatic lumen. In order to start treatment, it is important to visit a doctor’s consultation to confirm the diagnosis, determine the form of the disease and select the most accurate and effective treatment.

Diagnosis of prostate adenoma

Today, there are a number of diagnostic methods that allow one hundred percent to make a diagnosis.

Laboratory studies – the doctor prescribes KLA, OAM, blood biochemistry and an analysis to determine the prostate-specific antigen.

The doctor examines the condition of the prostate through a digital rectal examination. Also, the proctologist without fail prescribes: X-ray, ultrasound, uroflowmetry and biopsy of prostate adenoma.

By means of a biopsy, a malignant tumor can be determined, the presence of which radically changes the nature of further treatment.

In the initial stages of the development of the disease, drug treatment can be used; in more advanced stages, a referral for surgical intervention is made.

Contraindications for the operative method

Surgical intervention in the presence of prostate adenoma is contraindicated if: during the study of excised biopsy tissues, a malignant formation was detected; various postoperative complications are observed; the patient is unstable; diagnosed with acute heart failure.

Men with contraindications to surgery are recommended to engage in special therapeutic exercises daily.

Important: exercises for gymnastics should be selected by the doctor, taking into account the patient’s condition.

Removal of prostate adenoma

There are several classifications of methods of chronic treatment of prostate adenoma:

  1. Adenomectomy is one of the most common types of surgical intervention, which has minimal restrictions for its implementation. This operation is performed if: the weight of the node has reached forty grams, the volume of residual urine is over one hundred and fifty grams, complications are visualized.
  2. Transurethral resection (TUR) is a completely bloodless procedure, which involves performing all actions through the urethra. TUR is prescribed if: the weight of the node has reached 60 grams, the volume of residual urine is above 150 grams, there are no complaints about the work of the kidneys.
  3. TUR of vaporization of prostate adenoma (in other words, laser ablation and destruction) – the method belongs to the group of sparing, since a laser is used to work. It is this method that implies a greater likelihood of restoring the genitourinary system after surgery.

With the methodology of the operation, the doctor is determined directly, based on the indicators of direct examination and the results of the tests. It should be noted that in recent years, doctors increasingly prefer laser excision of prostate adenoma, as the technique has a number of advantages: a bloodless procedure; procedure without incisions; rapid recovery of the patient after surgery; the presence of a minimum percentage of the development of inflammatory or infectious complications.

The procedure, regardless of the method chosen by the doctor, is performed under general or spinal anesthesia. After carrying out the necessary actions, an ice pack is placed on the groin area in order to reduce the risk of swelling.

Rehabilitation after the operation

The recovery period is just as important as the operation itself. The entire recovery period, the patient should be under the supervision of an experienced and highly qualified specialist. The first two days it is important to observe strict bed rest. The doctor develops a special list of recommendations that must be followed as accurately as possible for the first two weeks, even if the condition improves significantly.

So, in the postoperative period, it is important: to exclude unnecessary body movements and prevent physical activity (complications and scarring of tissues can be provoked); drink plenty of fluids; refuse fried, smoked and salty foods; conduct antibiotic therapy (at least 10 days); stop smoking and drinking alcohol; do not miss preventive examinations of the doctor; get air baths; for a month and a half to give up sexual activity; wear special thick underwear.

As a prevention of the disease, it is recommended to perform a simple training complex. Exercises will benefit if you follow 4 basic rules: the load should start with a minimum and gradually increase; regularity is important; the body must be in good physical shape; the complex should be carried out exclusively in the morning.

The operation to remove the prostate allows men to get rid of this disease for at least 15 years. Only in rare cases may a second intervention be necessary. If the operation is unsuccessful, a special prostatic stent is installed for the patient, with the help of which the urethra is expanded mechanically.

At the first appearance of symptoms, contact a urologist, proctologist or surgeon for a timely diagnosis and selection of effective treatment, or for an operation with further rehabilitation.
