Removal of fibroids during pregnancy: how pregnancy proceeds after removal of fibroids
According to WHO statistics, fibroids are found in 7% of women in an interesting position. But this is not a reason to give up motherhood. Removal of fibroids during pregnancy is a way out of this situation.
Risks of carrying a child with neoplasms
Myoma is a benign tumor that occurs against the background of dyshormonal processes in the body.
.
The tumor causes insufficient blood circulation in the placenta. Active blood flow in the placenta leads to a violation of the blood supply to fibromatous nodes. Their decay is possible. In this case, there is acute pain in the lower abdomen, which threatens with uterine contractions and abortion.
No test can predict how fibroids will behave during pregnancy.
During pregnancy, a hormone is produced that supports the development of the fetus, progesterone. According to statistics, 96% of benign fibroids do not grow under the influence of progesterone, even slightly decrease. But 4% of formations are hormone-dependent. If the tumor is hormone-dependent, then it requires immediate surgical intervention.
Removal of fibroids during pregnancy: indications for surgery
Surgical intervention is carried out according to strict indications. Removal of fibroids during pregnancy is performed at 16 weeks. Indications for excision of a benign tumor:
- the size of the formation is more than 7 cm in diameter;
- rapid tumor growth;
- power failure of the node;
- severe pains
The operation is preferably performed laparoscopically. With laparoscopy, the risk to a woman’s health is minimized.
Complications after surgery
During pregnancy, after removal of the fibroid, an ultrasound examination of the uterus and fetus is performed every month to control the thickness of the postoperative scar. With thinning of the scar, natural childbirth is impossible. This can lead to rupture of the uterus.
In case of refusal of surgical intervention, there is a delay in the intrauterine development of the fetus. If the uterine cavity is deformed by a knot, the baby that grows starts to run out of space. The uterus becomes overstretched, which can cause premature labor. Then you need to take drugs that will help eliminate the tone of the uterus.
If a woman has multiple uterine fibroids, then during pregnancy only those nodes that interfere with the life of the fetus are removed. If the operation is not carried out on time, then during childbirth, the fibroid will interfere with the contraction of the uterus, which will complicate the process of giving birth to the baby.
