Remedy for limescale – varieties, methods of application
Hard water containing calcium carbonate forms limescale deposits on the surfaces of electrical appliances and plumbing fixtures. Deposits negatively affect the operation of equipment, leading to a decrease in heat transfer, an increase in power consumption, or even breakdown. Lime on taps and sinks does not significantly affect their functionality, but significantly spoils the look of the bathroom.
Which limescale remover should you choose?
Appliances such as kettles, filters and coffee machines require particularly gentle cleaning, because after the procedure a person will drink water from them. Modern products designed to remove plaque from kitchen appliances are endowed with many advantages:
· Do not leave odors;
· Environmentally friendly;
· Do not form chemical precipitates.
The use of such compositions does not cause difficulties: the anti-limescale is applied to the contaminated surface, left to act and thoroughly washed off.
For sinks, bathtubs and toilets, manufacturers offer a variety of powders, gels, foams, pastes and sprays. It is recommended to give preference to liquid and soft products that do not lag behind abrasive products in efficiency, but act much softer and do not damage the surface of the processed products.
Folk remedies for limescale
Even stubborn deposits will dissolve with acids, the main ingredient in many plaque control chemicals. However, this ingredient is available not only to manufacturers, but also to every housewife, so you can return the products to their previous appearance without buying expensive foams or gels. Below are simple but very effective folk methods for removing lime deposits.
1 tbsp. l. citric acid is diluted in 3 ml of water. The solution is applied to the surface, left on for 100 minutes and washed off. The product is suitable for cleaning any products.
2. Plumbing or appliances are treated with 6% vinegar and rinsed under running water. Such a remedy leaves a specific odor that disappears over time. To remove it from water heating devices, you need to boil water in them 2-3 times.
Natural products are safe to use and much cheaper than chemicals. However, in the fight against strong plaque, they are inferior to purchased products. In addition, lemon and vinegar do not protect against subsequent lime deposits.
