Relapsing fever – how does it manifest itself?

Relapsed fever is a tick-borne disease that occurs most frequently in the United States. It is caused by spirochetes and transmitted by ticks of the genus Ornithodoros. The incubation period of the disease is up to 3 weeks. It is most often manifested by high temperature, muscle and headaches as well as ecchymosis.

Symptoms of relapsing fever

Symptoms of relapsing fever are: fever, chills, muscle, head and abdominal pain, ecchymosis, photophobia and conjunctival haemorrhage. In the course of the disease, the patient’s condition may improve for several days, and then the symptoms may recur several times.
