Rehabilitation is a set of activities leading, first of all, to the restoration of the lost function of an organ or limb, but also to the improvement and efficiency of the organism. In a broader dimension, it includes not only strictly medical procedures, but also those that help the injured person return to normal life and work.

Medical rehabilitation is based on physiotherapy, which is divided into two areas that use different rehabilitation methods: kinesitherapy and physical therapy.

Kinesitherapy is a form of rehabilitation based on movement and physical exercise. After reviewing the patient’s history, the rehabilitator selects exercises appropriate to the age, endurance, and above all, the type of injury, its severity and the extent of damage. The key to the success of rehabilitation is regularity and commitment.

Physical therapy uses the healing effects of physical stimuli such as heat, cold, and physical phenomena such as current flow, shock wave or magnetic field.

Rehabilitation is recommended in many situations:

– after various injuries and accidents resulting in fractures

– after heavy surgeries associated with prolonged bed rest (respiratory rehabilitation prevents pneumonia, and physical exercise prevents muscle atrophy)

– after strokes and heart attacks

– in children and adults affected by diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including cerebral palsy, degenerative diseases of the joints, e.g. of the spine
