Rehabilitation of the elderly – where to go?

Rehabilitation of the elderly is often a consequence or supplementation of the treatment of certain diseases and ailments of seniors. That is why it is ordered by a doctor of a given specialty. It is important that he has a contract with the National Health Fund or practice in a facility that has concluded such a contract. Rehabilitation of the elderly can take place in a rehabilitation center, day care home for seniors or in sanatorium facilities.

The place of rehabilitation of the elderly is best chosen taking into account transport accessibility, as well as the medical team that works there. This is where you should apply with a referral. Reimbursement of the rehabilitation of the elderly is possible several times a year. The program includes treatments such as massages, therapeutic baths, hydrotherapy and cryotherapy, gymnastics and physiotherapy, light therapy and electromagnetic field treatment.

There are also many private centers offering rehabilitation for the elderly. They have modern equipment and often also free appointments. The prices of the rehabilitation of the elderly in private, however, are high. One hour of manual therapy costs PLN 140, and a package of 10 treatments, such as cryotherapy or light therapy, is around PLN 150. On the other hand, home rehabilitation of the elderly with a private physiotherapist can cost up to PLN 1200 for 10 sessions.

Rehabilitation treatments in a group and individually

Some treatments for the rehabilitation of the elderly must be carried out individually. This includes massages and a number of treatments that require the use of specialized equipment. These are private sessions, especially valuable for people who find it difficult to come to terms with the negative changes resulting from the disease.

However, often the rehabilitation therapy is aqua aerobics classes at the swimming pool or gymnastics for seniors. Being in a group not only motivates you to exercise, but also improves your mood, allows you to meet new people and forget about troubles.
