In states of stress, overwork and fatigue, a relaxing massage comes to us with relief. Properly made, it will help us get rid of not only tension, but also pain in the neck and back. Sometimes, however, a classic massage is not enough, especially when we suffer from joint pain, swelling or numbness in the limbs. Then a rehabilitation massage can help. What is it and when is it worth choosing?

What is rehabilitation massage?

Rehabilitation massage, also known as therapeutic massage, is one of the methods of physiotherapy whose main goal is to reduce pain, tension and prevention of orthopedic diseases, neurological and rheumatological. Most often it is recommended for problems such as:

  1. degenerative disease of the spine,
  2. muscle fatigue after intense exercise,
  3. muscle spasms
  4. conditions after injuries, i.e. fractures, sprains, sprains, bruises,
  5. locomotor dysfunctions,
  6. postoperative conditions,
  7. arthritis.

Types of rehabilitation massage

The type of massage that the physiotherapist will use in our case depends on many factors, such as health, body weight, gender or the type of ailment. However, he will not be able to do this without physical contact and checking how our joints, bones and muscles respond to a particular type of technique. Only then will he choose one of the existing types of rehabilitation massage.

Classic massage

This massage is most often used with people who complain about back muscle strain and the spine. In its course, the physiotherapist uses eight techniques, such as rubbing, stroking, pressing, kneading, vibrating, patting, rolling and shaking. Depending on the technique chosen, the muscles will be relaxed or energized. The most important principle of this massage is towards the heart.

Isometric massage

Isometric massage is used in the case of paresis and muscle atrophy. It can be divided into three stages. In the first one, the physiotherapist prepares the muscles by rubbing and warming them up. Then he pats them intensively and kneads them to finally loosen them.

Segmental massage

It is based on a strictly defined combination of techniques and tricks. The proper diagnosis, detection and removal of pathological and degenerative changes depends on their correct order. This type of massage is perfect for the treatment of nervously connected internal organs. The basis of this massage is a grinding movement from the nerves to the central nervous system.

Centrifugal massage

Centrifugal massage is also known as intra-articular massage because it is used in all injuries of joints and their surroundings. Therefore, it is recommended for people who have experienced sprains, sprains or contusions of the joint. It consists of two stages. In the first one, a physiotherapist heats the joint space by rubbing and pressing it. In the second stage, an ointment or gel with warming and healing properties is applied.

Very often, rehabilitation massage to strengthen its effect is combined with other therapeutic methods, such as therapy with cold, heat, water, magnetic field, mechanical energy or infrared radiation. Sometimes a few rehabilitation massage sessions are needed for the symptoms to disappear. The price of one starts from PLN 50.
