The procedure after knee arthroscopy depends primarily on the abnormalities detected during the procedure and the type of surgery performed.

In the early stage, rehabilitation exercises should be conducted by a physiotherapist in contact with the doctor performing the procedure. In general, during the first days after arthroscopy, it is recommended to relieve the joint by using elbow crutches for walking, resting with the limb elevated, using cold compresses and painkillers.

During this time, usually the exercises consisting in lifting a straight limb in a supine position, tightening the calf muscles and strengthening the quadriceps muscle are introduced. This is followed by a gradual restoration of the full mobility of the joint. Return to the current daily life activities usually takes place within 6 weeks. You can sometimes return to sedentary work a week after the procedure. Work that requires loading the knees and engaging in sports training requires about 6-12 weeks after arthroscopy. In any case, the rehabilitation physician may adapt the said guidelines to the individual needs and capabilities of the patient.
