Regional Medical Chamber: President Andrzej Duda’s words about vaccinations are absolutely unacceptable

The echoes of yesterday’s “debates” organized by the presidential candidates continue. In response to one of the questions, Andrzej Duda said: “I am not a supporter of any compulsory vaccinations”, which caused outrage in the medical community. A position in this matter was taken by the District Medical Chamber in Warsaw. Hours after the debate, the president explained on Twitter that he meant compulsory vaccination against COVID-19, and not all vaccinations.

“Public figures bear a special responsibility for their words”

The Regional Medical Chamber in Warsaw issued a position on the words spoken by the President of the Republic of Poland, which undermine the sense of preventive vaccinations. The announcement reads that “the ongoing election campaign cannot justify the promotion of anti-health attitudes harmful to the health of the society, and the immediate political interest cannot be more important than the health of Poles”.

OIL rightly notes that public figures bear a special responsibility for words and promoted attitudes.

We find absolutely unacceptable the words of President Andrzej Duda, which were uttered during the “debate” organized by TVP, in which the President undermined the sense of compulsory preventive vaccinations, as well as the sense of influenza vaccination.

The District Medical Chamber also asked the Chief Sanitary Inspector, the Minister of Health and the Patient’s Rights Ombudsman for an urgent response and to take a position on this matter.

Andrzej Duda on compulsory vaccinations

In yesterday’s “debate” prepared by TVP, when asked about when the COVID-19 pandemic will end and when there will be a vaccine against the coronavirus, Andrzej Duda replied that “I am absolutely not a supporter of any compulsory vaccinations”. He also added that he had never vaccinated against the flu himself.

The president’s statement received wide media coverage. After a few hours, a post appeared on Twitter in which the president called “STOP MANIPULATION” and explained that he believes that vaccination against COVID-19 should not be mandatory. «As for the other diseases (polio, tuberculosis, scarlet fever, etc.), this is quite different. Another conversation »- wrote the president.

Let’s just add that there is no vaccine for scarlet fever.

The editorial board recommends:

  1. The candidates for the presidency in the service of health. What is their idea for healthcare in Poland?
  2. Virologist on the prospect of a COVID-19 vaccine and the work of Poles that can help in this
  3. «Vaccine development continues as fast as COVID-19 spreads»
