Due to the fact that publications about the harm to the health of Russian residents of bananas with a peel covered with spots of red-brown color began to appear frequently on the network, the Rosselkhoznadzor gave an explanation in this regard. According to its officials, the bacteria that cause stains on bananas do not pose any danger to humans.
From the statement it follows: bananas have been imported into the country for many years, since the fruit is good for the health of the consumer. The product contains vitamins, minerals and nutrients necessary to replenish the body with substances valuable for life. But these same useful substances attract pests, bacteria and pathogens. And one of them is the “bloody disease” spread by the harmful bacteria Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchietal. It is found on the territory of Indonesia, from where bananas are imported to our country. Having penetrated into the skin of the fruit, the bacterium settles in its vessels and forms brown rot on the surface. Banana covered with this rot can be toxic and cause poisoning in some cases. But you cannot get infected with Ralstonia solanacearum (Smith) Yabuuchietal from it.
Rosselkhoznadzor reminds that a dangerous species of bacteria infects 200 species of subtropical, tropical, potted and solanaceous plants. Including potatoes and tomatoes. The rot of the latter is a quarantine organism for Russia. However, it is impossible to get infected with it, according to the employees of the All-Russian Plant Quarantine Center.
