In search of a miraculous remedy to get rid of unwanted pigmentation, acne or wrinkles, we are ready for a lot. And even instead of eating a serving of redcurrant, many make a face mask out of it. What to expect from such an experiment, we will tell in this article.
Why redcurrant is good for facial skin
To be honest, they love blackcurrant more. Compared to red, it is sweeter, which does not detract from the valuable qualities of the scarlet berry. Red has a little less vitamin C, but a lot:
vitamins A, E, H, PP, group B;
minerals and trace elements (potassium, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, magnesium);
fruit acids.
Red currant is a bright, tasty and very healthy berry.
An alternative to homemade redcurrant masks can be ready-made acid-based beauty products.
The effectiveness of face masks from red currant
“If you want to quickly put your skin in order, make a mask,” such advice is often given by cosmetologists. And not by accident. The mask is an intensive care product for a quick effect. However, you should not use it more often than the manufacturer advises. As a result, the use of a mask with red currant:
the skin is smoothed and becomes more elastic;
pigmented areas are lightened;
pores are cleansed.
Who will suit the mask of red currant
With hyperpigmentation. Red currant contains vitamin A, which makes dark spots less noticeable.
For oily skin. Tannins, fruit acids, vitamin C, B vitamins, which have antibacterial and healing effects, have a good effect on oily skin.
For dry and aging skin. Sodium, calcium, magnesium, flavonoids contribute to powerful skin rejuvenation, increasing its smoothness and elasticity.
Homemade mask or purchased: expert opinion
Red currant masks improve complexion.
In summer, during the season of currant ripening, hands reach out to stretch freshly picked berries and apply them on the face. There is nothing wrong with this, if you are sure that you did not use harmful fertilizers. But our expert Elena Eliseeva warns: “There is no need to rush. Before you start preparing the mask, consider some points.
Homemade masks
Currants contain acids that can irritate sensitive skin. Before applying a mask to the face, it is necessary to conduct an allergy test.
Currant juice strongly irritates wounds and cracks in the skin and stains almost everything it touches. Any cosmetics and homemade recipes should not be used on the skin with a violation of the integrity of the cover, as well as in acute inflammatory processes, ”warns Elena Eliseeva.
Purchased masks
Cosmetic products with berry extracts have been tested for safety and efficacy. You can choose a product designed specifically for sensitive skin. In this case, the risk of allergic reactions (of course, we are talking about products marked “hypoallergenic”) is close to zero.
Do not stain skin or clothes.
Finished products are less capricious. Fresh currants lose their beneficial properties when heated, thawed in the microwave or cooked in a metal dish.
In addition to currants, the manufacturer adds other antioxidants, moisturizing or caring components to the finished mask. So the skin receives the whole complex of necessary substances.
Choosing recipes
Start preparing homemade masks, carefully weighing all the pros and cons.

Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, Kiehl’s
There is no red currant in the composition, but there are fruit acids, which currants are also rich in. So night micropeeling can be considered a good “replacement” tool – it renews the skin, makes it radiant and fresh.
Peeling mask for skin renewal Re-Plasty High Definition Peel, Helena Rubinstein
The formula, albeit without currants, but with acids (and there are enough of them in currants) renews and brightens the skin, reduces wrinkles. It is better to use regularly, twice a week, then the result will be more noticeable.
Mineral peeling mask “Double Radiance”, Vichy
In addition to fruit acids (and you remember, there are a lot of them in currants, so the replacement is equivalent), particles of volcanic origin are involved in exfoliation. This allows you to quickly and effectively achieve an even tone and radiance.
Rules and recommendations for use
Before using any mask, you should adhere to the following recommendations:
apply the mask on a well-cleansed face;
try to choose evening time for exposure (before going to bed);
be sure to use the usual care product after the mask.
Safety measures
It should be understood that a mask of fresh berries and a finished product are two different things.
For a homemade mask, only fresh berries should be used. If they are frozen, they must be allowed to thaw naturally – heat treatment will deprive them of their beneficial properties.
Fresh berries can have a very high concentration of active substances, so before using the mask, it is worth checking for portability on the wrist.
The prepared mask should be used immediately or during the day, otherwise an undesirable reaction is possible.
In no case should a mask of fresh red currant berries be left on the skin overnight.
