Red peonies: varieties
The most favorite among gardeners for many seasons are bright red and white peonies. They attract admiring glances, emit a pleasant aroma and delight the eye. There are more than 40 species of this beautiful flower, adapted to the climatic features of Russia.
Among the huge selection of peony varieties, several forms of peduncle can be distinguished:
- Spherical varieties of peonies. A striking representative of this category is the Red Charm variety. Each bud of this variety reaches an incredible size – 25 cm in diameter. This species has a distinctive feature – strong stems.
- Semi-double peonies. This variety includes the early peony Coral ‘N Gold, which has an incredible flower color: coral-colored petals and a milky heart.
- Japanese varieties of peonies. Very popular with contemporary flora designers. One of the most luxurious varieties is Akron, a late-blooming peony with purple-wine flowers.
- Dwarf peonies. Plants in this category do not grow higher than 60 cm from the ground. The Moscow variety is a ruby-red representative of the dwarf family. The variety Madrid has snow-white flowers.
Every year, breeders bring out new types of peonies with a variety of shapes and colors.
Red peonies – early varieties
Among the early varieties with red flowers, there are especially favorite among gardeners and florists:
- Angelo Cobb Freeborn is a variety intended for cutting. It blooms with large flowers.
- Carol is a terry species with fiery red flowers;
- Henry Bockstoce, Red Grace – globular peonies with a coral red color;
- Chocolate Soldier is a unique variety that does not have the sturdiness of the peduncle shape. Colored dark red-brown;
- Kansas is distinguished by friendly flowering, due to which it looks like a large bouquet on the flower bed. The buds have a raspberry red hue.
All varieties of peonies look great both in a bouquet and in a flower bed.
Late varieties of red peonies
Late species include varieties that bloom in a flower bed until the first frost:
- Felix Supreme, Paul M. Wild are considered the best late-flowering dark carmine red species;
- Marilla Beauty is a unique peony variety, renowned for its resistance to weather conditions;
- Corine Wersan is a special variety whose flowers resemble freshly blossomed apple blossoms.
It is these varieties that will decorate the flower bed before the frost begins.
All peonies, regardless of the variety, are beautiful and attractive. In recent years, there has been a tendency to break up flower beds with peonies of different varieties of the same color. Knowing which varieties are early and which are late, you can recreate a flower bed that blooms all season.
