Red Eye (Red Eye) – anti-hangover cocktail with beer

“Red Eye” – one of the most popular hangover cocktails, is made on the basis of beer and tomato juice. Due to the low strength (1-2% vol.), the drink quickly brings to life, but does not cause severe intoxication, and tomato juice, egg yolk and black pepper help the body restore the mineral-salt balance. The taste is peculiar, but the cocktail copes well with its main task.

Historical information

The exact place of appearance and the author of the recipe are unknown. It is assumed that the name “Red Eye” describes the state of a person the morning after a stormy party.

The drink became popular after the release of the film “Cocktail” (1988) with Tom Cruise in the title role. According to the plot, the bartender Brian Flanagan drinks a lot at work, and in the morning he brings himself to life with Red Eye.

Now this cocktail is served in the morning in many American bars.

Cocktail recipe Red eye

Composition and proportions:

  • light beer – 200 ml;
  • tomato juice – 200 ml;
  • chicken egg – 1 piece;
  • salt, black pepper – to taste;
  • Tabasco sauce – to taste (optional);
  • lemon – for decoration.

To prepare one serving, you need a beer or any other tall glass with a minimum volume of 0,5 liters. It is advisable to use light beer of low strength with a slight bitterness. If you add Tabasco, you get a Sharp Red Eye cocktail. All ingredients must be cold before mixing.

Technology of preparation

1. Pour beer into a glass, then tomato juice.

2. Separate the protein from the yolk, add the yolk to the beer with tomato juice. If you just beat an egg into a glass, then due to the protein and carbon dioxide in the beer, the cocktail will begin to foam a lot.

3. Salt and pepper to taste. Add Tabasco sauce if desired. Garnish with a lemon wedge. Drink in one gulp without stirring.
