Red-brown talker (Inverted): description and photo

Those who have been picking mushrooms and berries for a long time know how to distinguish edible specimens. An inverted talker is an inedible variety that can attract inexperienced mushroom pickers with its appearance.

Where do talkers grow inverted

This fungus is common in regions with dense coniferous and deciduous forests. It grows in the thicket of the forest, where it is mostly dark and damp.

Inverted talkers can be found throughout Europe, in North America, in Ireland, Iceland. Mushrooms can appear at the foot of anthills, on coniferous litter, wet rotting stumps. Inverted talkers grow in close groups: this can be seen in numerous photos of mushroom pickers.

Mushrooms can also cluster in groups of 10-15 around a selected stump or at the base of a tree. The maturation of the inverted talkers is stretched. They appear in the forests in the summer, remain elastic and not damaged until the autumn frosts.

Important! In open areas, this variety grows, forming “witch circles”.

What do talkers look like inverted

Inverted talkers are often called red-brown for the color of the fruiting body. According to the external description, they are similar to some representatives of their own genus, but they also have characteristic differences:

  1. Their hats can grow up to 14 cm in diameter. In young talkers, they have a beautiful, orange-brick hue, matte smooth surface, convex, but eventually become flat and depressed in the center. The cap can be wavy along the edges with narrow, frequent pale orange plates. Black dots are visible on its surface, arranged randomly.
  2. The leg extends up to 10 cm. It is usually dry, thin, slightly pubescent and similar in color to the color of the cap.

When the cap or stem is broken, whitish flesh is found. The smell is characterized as sweet, obsessive. After cutting, the pulp remains dense, does not darken.

Edible or not red-brown talkers

Mycologists refer the inverted talker to the inedible group. But according to some sources, this species contains a toxin, therefore it is considered poisonous.

Attention! Inverted talkers are not used for cooking, even with prolonged heat treatment.

How to distinguish upside down talkers

The inverted representative of the Psatirellaceae family is similar to related varieties: funnel, brown-yellow, water-spotted. Red-brown talkers are difficult to distinguish from related species. Near, in addition to the external description, the sense of smell is used for identification. The smell of an inverted talker resembles a rotting orange, with a hint of bergamot.

  1. funnel the species is distinguished by a pale color on the cap, the absence of a wavy edge, as well as black dots on the surface of the cap. This variety has a characteristic mushroom smell.

  2. brown yellow the species is distinguished by the general shade of the fruiting body. The cap and stem eventually acquire a brownish-yellow tone. In young specimens, the color is even lighter: it is characterized as creamy yellow.

  3. waterspotted the type is distinguished by a white shade of the plates when broken, fuzzy round spots on the surface of the cap.

Red-brown or inverted talkers grow in whole colonies, and brown-yellow ones prefer to settle on stumps or near tree trunks, 1-2 each.

Symptoms of poisoning

Harmful substances that enter the body along with fungi can accumulate for 2-3 hours before the first signs of poisoning appear.

Poisonous mushrooms cause a reaction after 20 minutes. after taking. This is due to the high content of poison. However, the inverted talker contains less dangerous toxins: their effect does not give an instant result.

After taking the first symptoms begin to appear, which may not be immediately noticeable:

  • mild dizziness;
  • a slight decrease in blood pressure;
  • drowsiness;
  • decrease in muscle tone.

After a few hours, serious symptoms are added to mild signs:

  • nausea with increasing vomiting;
  • diarrhea;
  • sharp pain in the upper part of the stomach;
  • change in the shade of the skin;
  • sweating;
  • salivation;
  • tachycardia;
  • pressure jumps.

Vomiting and diarrhea can lead to dehydration, which leads to accompanying symptoms: severe drowsiness, decreased coordination, fever, general weakness, blurred vision.

First aid for poisoning

An inverted talker can cause severe poisoning due to the content of a complex of toxic substances. If you find the accidental use of this fungus, you must call an ambulance.

Before the arrival of a team of specialists, it is first of all important to eliminate the influence of toxins and prevent dehydration of the body after vomiting and diarrhea. To this end, the necessary measures will be:

  • the use of liquid in order to prevent dehydration (preparation of a saline solution at the rate of 1 tsp per 1 tbsp of water or the use of pharmaceutical products: Regidron and analogues);
  • the use of enterosorbents for the removal of harmful substances (Enterosgel, a solution from a suspension of Polysorb, activated carbon);
  • with an increase in temperature – taking antipyretics (Paracetomol, Ibuprofen);
  • the victim should be in bed, warm heating pads should be placed on his legs and stomach.

In some cases, diarrhea and vomiting may be absent, making it difficult to diagnose poisoning and entail serious consequences, since toxins do not leave the body. First aid involves inducing vomiting artificially. To do this, drink 1,5 liters of potassium permanganate solution, then press on the root of the tongue.

Conclusion

An inverted talker is an inedible mushroom that belongs to the class of poisonous ones. Mycologists do not recommend experimenting on their own health and trying unknown specimens. If there are doubts about the belonging of the found talker, it is better to refuse it and pass by.
