On August 17, the Ministry of Health announced a record-breaking 7175 consecutive daily infections in our country. Starting today, the second COVID-19 booster can be vaccinated by medical personnel, including pharmacy workers and medical students. The Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, announced that on the night of August 16-17, approx. e-referrals.

We know the details of the current epidemic situation in Poland. On August 17, the Ministry of Health announced 7175 new cases of coronavirus infection. Of these, 1306 are reinfections and 5869 are new infections. 25 patients died. 12 people recovered. The number of SARS-CoV-2 virus tests that were performed was 17, and 065 were positive.
The greatest number of infections was recorded in the following voivodships: Mazowieckie, Śląskie and Małopolskie.

The Ministry of Health also released new weekly data on COVID-19 infections in Poland. In the period from August 11 to 17, 2022, there were 22 (including 712 reinfections) confirmed cases of infection.
Most cases were recorded in the following voivodeships: Mazowieckie (3647), Śląskie (2882), Małopolskie (1892), Wielkopolskie (1603) and Dolnośląskie (1502)

Healthcare workers, medical staff, medical students and pharmacists will be able to take a second booster dose against COVID-19.
These people will receive an mRNA vaccine: Comirnaty (Pfizer) or Spikevax (Moderna). Experts note that it is recommended to vaccinate with the same preparation as for the first booster vaccination, i.e. the third dose of the vaccine.
– We encourage all eligible individuals to take a second booster dose. The research leaves no doubt – it will significantly increase resistance to the coronavirus. After four doses of the vaccine, protection is close to 80%. – noted the head of the Ministry of Health.
Who can get vaccinated with the fourth dose? These groups are eligible
Medics and pharmacists are another group eligible for a second booster. As announced by Adam Niedzielski, almost 16 tickets are planned to be displayed on the night of August 17-400. e-referrals.
«We issued 382 tickets tonight. e-referrals for the 4th dose of COVID-19 vaccination for medical staff. So far, 2 million people have registered for the 1,25nd booster and 1,04 million of them have been vaccinated »- wrote Adam Niedzielski on Twitter.
You can also make an appointment for vaccination by calling 989 (the hotline of the National Vaccine Program) and at selected vaccination points.
From July 22, immunocompromised individuals 60-79 years of age or 12+ with reduced immunity can be vaccinated with a second booster dose 120 days after the first booster dose. Earlier, from April 20, such an option was available to elderly people aged 80+.
When will the double vaccine go to Poland?
The latest study shows that the level of neutralizing antibodies against the Omikron COVID-19 variant drops significantly around three months after the booster injection.
Therefore, it is possible that routine booster vaccinations will be needed in the long run, as will the annual flu shots.
The UK is the first country to approve a dual vaccine targeting both the original COVID-19 virus and its newer variant, Omikron. The product contains 25 µg of the vaccine against the original version and 25 µg against the Omicron mutations.
The updated vaccine is to be available in European Union countries, including Poland, in September.
