Why “ascorbic”? Because fresh rosehips contain a very large, record amount of vitamin C. In addition, rosehip tinctures are very tasty, easy to make and, in addition, beautiful.
Rosehips contain 50 times more vitamin C than lemons and 100 times more than apples. In dried rose hips, the amount of ascorbic acid generally skyrockets – 1200 mg per 100 grams of product. Rosehip tincture on vodka is unique in that alcohol destroys ascorbic acid in smaller quantities than, for example, boiling water. So in our drink there will be significantly more vitamins than in any jam-compote-broth.
But this is not the main thing. The taste and color of wild rose tincture is what fans of homemade alcohol appreciate in it. The only problem is the lack of aroma, which is easily eliminated by the addition of other components. Popular, for example, tincture of rose hips and pine nuts, apples, cranberries, mountain ash, citruses, coffee, mint, even bay leaves are also added to the product. In general, about everything in order.
The choice of rose hips for tincture
The opinions of experienced moonshiners are divided: some say that fresh rose hips are better suited for tinctures, others – that dried ones. Both have their pros and cons – fresh gives the drink turbidity, because of which it will have to be filtered more carefully, but the taste is brighter, and the color is pronounced. Dried rose hips give the drink notes of dried fruits. If you like uzvar, feel free to take “drying”, especially since it contains three times more of this vitamin C.
The best option is raw, but dried berries for 2-3 days. In some recipes for rosehip tincture on vodka, they are additionally kneaded with a rolling pin. But grinding them with a blender is not worth it – they say, in this case, microscopic hairs pass into the drink, which are poorly filtered and can scratch the larynx, creating an unpleasant sensation in the throat – like after a cough.
Rosehip tincture recipes
For the most ordinary tincture, you need to take a jar of slightly crushed rose hips, pour alcohol over it and leave for 2 weeks, then filter it. But, as already mentioned, with the addition of additional ingredients, the drink turns out to be tastier.
Rosehip tincture with bay leaf
- 4 liter of vodka/alcohol/moonshine 40-50%
- 1,5 cups dry rose hips
- 4 medium bay leaves
- 1/2 st. l. fragrant honey
How to cook:
Mix everything in a jar, shake well, cork and put in a dark place. Further, the author advises to “forget about the tincture”, that is, the longer you stand it, the better, at least a month. After that, the tincture must be passed through the filter, since honey will definitely give a precipitate, stand a little more and taste. This option will be much more interesting and fragrant than the usual tincture.
Rosehip tincture-pouring on vodka
There is also a recipe. It needs only fresh berries, washed and freed from the stalks. Rose hips are also recommended to be trimmed to give alcohol access to all the pulp and bones.
- 700 g fresh rose hips
- 500 ml of vodka / alcohol / moonshine 40-45%
- 300 g sugar
Technology of preparation:
- The berries are placed in a jar in layers, each layer is crushed with sugar, the container is filled to the top, closed and shaken well several times.
- Rosehip with sugar should stand for 10 days in a dark place. The point is that the sugar draws all the juice out of the berries.
- When all the sugar has dissolved, all the remaining place is filled with vodka to the very eyeballs.
- Infusion should last at least 2 weeks, more if possible, after which the alcohol is drained and filtered.
- Next, the rosehip can be re-filled with vodka, already without sugar – then our drink will turn out to be less sweet, but more saturated and strong. This time, the tincture needs to be kept longer – at least three weeks, better – a month, then it will need to be drained and filtered.
- Both drinks are combined (the first also does not hurt to pass through the filter again). The finished tincture should be given a good rest, as long as possible, but at least a week.
This tincture recipe is more complex, but the result is worthy, justifying the effort and the long wait.
Rosehip and pine nuts tincture
The combination of rose hips and pine nuts is very popular, and this tincture is made in many different ways. For the simplest, we need:
- 0,5 liters of alcohol or moonshine 60%
- 15 g dry rose hips – 1 tbsp. l. with a slide
- 8-10 g of pine nuts – 1 tbsp. l. without a slide
The technology is simple:
The ingredients are poured with alcohol and infused for at least a month in a dark place, after which the drink is considered ready.
The second option is much more interesting. Ordinary vodka is also suitable for it, but many components are needed, including rare ones. For three liters of moonshine 40 ° or ordinary vodka, you need:
- 3 liters of high-quality moonshine or vodka
- 2/3 cup pine nuts*
- 15 pcs. fresh or dry rose hips
- 1 st. l. juniper berries**
- 1 st. l. chopped lemon peel
- 2 tbsp. l. chopped oak bark
- liquorice root***
* – 140 grams fit into a faceted glass full to the brim, we, accordingly, need a little less than 100;
** – do not be too lazy to read about choosing the right juniper for drinks – it can be poisonous;
*** – the author recommends putting “5 slices” of licorice (liquorice). It is difficult to calculate this per gram of ground root, I recommend taking no more than a teaspoon, since not everyone loves licorice. You can completely do without this component.
The technology is just as simple:
All ingredients are poured with alcohol and stand for a month in a dark place, after which the drink is filtered and, if desired, sweetened with syrup. That’s it, the tincture of rose hips and pine nuts can be considered ready, but it’s better to let it rest for another couple of weeks.
Rosehip tincture with coffee and orange
This recipe will help brighten up the flaws of homemade moonshine, give it the aroma, taste and color of an elite drink. But it is still better to use a high quality distillate, with a strength of 40-45 degrees.
- 0,5 liters of high-quality moonshine or vodka
- 10 pieces. dried wild rose
- 2 pieces of orange peel ~ 1,5×5 cm – can be dried
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground coffee – coarse grind
- sugar to taste
How to do it:
To make the rosehip feel better, you can crush it with a spoon. Further, everything is simple – the ingredients are placed in a jar, poured with alcohol and stand for 2 weeks. This rosehip tincture on vodka or moonshine must be filtered well – through a cotton or coffee filter so that small particles of coffee do not hang in it. After filtering, the drink is sweetened to taste. To do this, you need to make fructose or sugar syrup and gradually add it to the tincture until it reaches the taste you like. This drink should not be cloying, you should not put more than a tablespoon of syrup per 0,5 liter.
After sweetening, the rosehip tincture needs to stand for a few more days, after which it must be filtered again. To use – certainly with pleasure!
Rosehip tincture: benefits and harms
Alcohol, as you know, leaches vitamin C from the body, that is, by insisting alcohol on rose hips, you reduce its destructive effect, and also help your own body cope with the poison faster. But how large doses of ascorbic acid interact with ethyl alcohol is difficult to say.
Rosehip tincture on moonshine, alcohol or vodka is a sure way to boost immunity, it helps to overcome inflammatory processes in the body, especially long-term, chronic ones, it is used as a medicine against anemia, atherosclerosis, diseases of the genitourinary and digestive systems. The drink constricts blood vessels and increases blood pressure.
Although, in fact, almost all alcohol works this way. Hence the contraindication – with hypertension, you should not lean on this tincture, as with an ulcer, gastritis or heart disease. And they also say that the drink, due to its high acidity, has a bad effect on the teeth, so you definitely need to drink it – rinse your mouth.
In general, if you use rosehip tincture as a remedy, a teaspoon per day is enough, and if it goes purely as an entertainment tool, that is relaxing-warming-singing – from a single dose of several glasses, I’m sure nothing bad will happen to you.
