A child’s first visit to the dentist is a very important event. It largely depends on this experience whether the little patient will have a fear of the dentist, which can develop into real dentophobia with age. Therefore, the choice of a clinic for a child must be approached with great responsibility. And how can you be sure of the quality of services if dentistry spawns like mushrooms after rain, but at the same time many are closed, not having existed for a year?
To help parents choose a good doctor for their child, the popular information resource about dentistry Startsmile.ru and the Kommersant Publishing House compiled an independent rating of private children’s dental clinics in Russia in 2016. This is a non-profit project that has been held for the second year in a row. Its goal is to find the best in the industry.
To get into the rating, the clinic had to leave an application on the Startsmile.ru website. With the support of leading experts, the organizers assessed the participants on more than sixteen parameters. The main condition is that a medical institution must have an official license to conduct a children’s appointment, and certified specialists in the field of “pediatric dentistry” must work in the staff.
The jury also paid attention to the availability of specially equipped children’s rooms, separate chairs for toddlers, playrooms and certain types of anesthesia. An important role was played by the range of services that the clinic provides, as well as the number of doctors who specialize only in treating young patients.
For each criterion, the clinic received a certain number of points, and their sum influenced the place in the ranking.
There were other selection criteria. So, information about the clinic should be in the public domain, and the management should present certificates, diplomas and other necessary documents on demand. In short, the organizers insisted on complete transparency.
In total, more than 250 private pediatric dentistry offices in 40 cities of Russia (29 subjects of the federation) have been tested. The final rating was divided into two parts: in one, clinics that have been operating for less than three years were collected, in the second, institutions with more than three years of experience.
