The first description of the raspberry variety was given in 1994. Volnitsa was created by scientific breeders from Bryansk S. D. Aitzhanova, V. L. Kulagina under the guidance of I. V. Kazakov. It is they who are the “parents” of many non-remontant raspberry varieties, including Wolnitsy.

An interesting parental chain is being built up: “father and mother” are the raspberry varieties Bryanskaya and Brigantina. And the “grandmother” of Volnitsa is called Novosti Kuzmina (an old variety), it was from her that the Bryansk raspberry was obtained.

Description

Bushes

Raspberry Volnitsa is of medium height, reaches 170-200 cm. The shoots are slightly inclined, as if freely scattered, hence the name. Attention! The variety Volnitsa bears fruit on the shoots of the second year of life.

The stems of the raspberry variety are of medium thickness, at first brown with a wax coating, the next year light brown. The shoots are covered from top to bottom with purple thorns, but they are small, not very prickly. There are many leaves, they are densely arranged. That is why the mother bush receives enough nutrition and gives all its strength to fruiting. Although, if it is necessary to rapidly propagate the Volnitsa raspberry variety on a large scale, there will be not enough planting material.

The berries of the variety are attractive in appearance, have the shape of a blunt cone. As gardeners note in the reviews, the fruits of the Volnitsa raspberry always correspond to the description: they are even, without the slightest deviation. The weight of the berries ranges from 3-5 grams. The drupes are of the same size, hold tightly to each other, do not crumble even after the raspberries are overripe.

Fruits when ripe change color from light crimson to bright red. On the surface of the berries there is a slight pubescence, inherited by the Volnitsa variety from the Novosti Kuzmina raspberry, which is considered “grandmother”. This feature of raspberry fruits is clearly visible in the photo.

The taste of raspberries is sweet and sour, the aroma is subtle, barely perceptible. The pulp is tender, juicy. Each drupe has seeds, but they are so small that they are not felt when eaten. Tasters evaluate the taste qualities of Volnitsa raspberries with four points out of five.

3. The presence of spines along the entire length of the shoot.

Site Selection

Raspberries are planted on fertile soil, in which there is enough moisture. But groundwater should not come close to the root system, as fungal diseases can occur in waterlogged soil. Weeds are removed before planting.

If the soil is peaty, then clay and manure must be added. This organic matter will contribute to the development of microorganisms that decompose peat. When choosing a site for Wolnitsa raspberries, the factor that low planting sites are undesirable is also taken into account, since the bushes can be damaged by frost.

The most successful place for planting raspberries is along the fence on the south side of the site. In this case, the plants will be evenly lit throughout the day.

Accommodation options

The method of planting raspberry Wolnitsa depends on the size of the plot. You can grow freestanding bushes or in a trench:

1. Planting in individual bushes. Under the plants, it is necessary to dig holes 40×50 cm. Each of them is first filled with drainage, and then with fertile soil. There should be at least 100 cm between raspberry bushes, and up to two meters between rows. This distance is necessary for planting care.
2. Into the trench The trench method of growing raspberries of any variety is the most common. This arrangement of bushes is more economical. Ditches for planting raspberries are located from north to south. The trenches should be 50 cm wide and at least 45 cm deep. When planting, 40 cm is left between the bushes, and the next ditch is dug after 100 cm.

Drainage must be laid at the bottom of the trench. Fertile soil is poured on top, which includes organic matter or mineral fertilizers (depending on the preferences of gardeners).

Features of landing

You can plant raspberries of the Volnitsa variety in spring or autumn. But it is autumn plantings that are considered the best options. You need to start work until the soil freezes, so that the root system has time to take root. If raspberries are planted in the spring, then very early, until the buds wake up.

Seedlings preparation

Before planting, you need to prepare not only the soil, but also the planting material. All the shoots are cut off from the seedling, leaving only one, the strongest. In addition, it is necessary to shorten the stem to a height of 20 cm.

Even if the planting material was taken directly from the garden, it still needs to be soaked in a nutrient mixture of mullein and clay. This procedure will strengthen the immunity of the seedling, it will take root better.

How to plant raspberries:

1. Drainage should be laid at the bottom. Many gardeners advise using so-called firewood. These are branches left over from pruning trees or pieces of boards, wood chips. They will decompose slowly, and the bacteria developing on the tree will process organic matter into nutrients.
2. The soil for filling a pit or trench is prepared from humus, compost. Drainage is sprinkled with a layer of earth and well filled with water. Add superphosphate or potash fertilizer on top. And only then a layer of fertile land. The roots of a raspberry seedling should not come into contact with mineral fertilizers, so as not to get burned.

A mound is made in the center of the seat and seedlings are planted on it. Soil is poured on top and tamped well to squeeze out air from under the raspberry root system. Abundant watering will allow the roots to better adhere to the soil. When planting, the root neck of the seedling should be above the soil. It will settle a little after watering.

To preserve moisture, the soil around the plantings is mulched with sawdust, straw or manure. If raspberries were planted in October or early November (depending on the region), then the roots of the plant fall asleep by 10 centimeters. This is necessary to cover the kidneys.

Features of care

There are no particular difficulties in growing the plant. Even novice gardeners manage to get good yields:

1. Since the raspberry variety Wolnitsa is tall, it requires tying up. Plants grown in a trench way are fixed on a trellis. A reliable stake is driven in next to single landings.

   

2. Like any plant, plantings are watered as needed. The raspberry variety Volnitsa especially needs moisture during flowering and fruiting. In hot weather, watering is increased, you can also water the plants over the leaves early in the morning or after sunset.

4. Sanitary pruning of bushes is carried out in the spring, removing diseased and frozen shoots. In the summer, grown replacement branches are cut off so that they can branch out. This procedure also allows the shoots to ripen well before winter.
5. Variety Volnitsa in one place can bear fruit up to 15 years. It is clear that diseases and pests accumulate during this time, despite the stability and good immunity. Therefore, preventive procedures are an integral part of planting care. Traditional preparations are used, taking into account recommendations for use.

Preparation for winter

In autumn, fruiting shoots of raspberries are cut out under the root, and the young ones are bent to the ground. Work is carried out before the onset of frost. Flexible shoots are good to lay, they do not break.

In regions with abundant snow, there are fewer problems: it is enough to add it in winter. If winters are not snowy, raspberries are covered with non-woven material, spruce branches on top, or earth. Full shelter is performed with the onset of stable cold weather.
