Raspberry taganka: description

Raspberry “Taganka” is considered a large-fruited, remontant berry, fruiting begins around mid-July, depending on the weather conditions in the region.

Description of raspberries “Taganka”

Berries are formed both on young shoots and two-year-olds. On average, about 28-35 berries can be harvested from one branch. The berries are mostly soft, and therefore unsuitable for long-term transportation.

Like other varieties, Taganka raspberries are small, but rather sweet, with a slight sourness.

On average, the fruits reach 7-12 grams in weight. Several berries from a bush weigh 20–23 grams. There are few seeds in the berries. The taste of the berries is balanced, a little acidity and pleasant sweetness make Taganka one of the most delicious varieties. Fruits are usually classical in shape – in the form of a cone, rich dark red, not matte.

The height of a two-year-old bush reaches 55–70 cm. Shoots generally grow in width. This variety requires a mandatory garter prior to fruiting. During the formation of berries, the branches bend strongly to the ground and therefore get dirty.

Raspberry pruning is carried out 2 times – in autumn and spring, at the beginning of the formation of shoots. In the fall, a small number of shoots growing inside the bush are cut off. In the spring, cut off adjacent shoots that interfere with each other

Young shoots are cut by 10-15 cm. You can choose the second pruning option – at the root. In late autumn, raspberries are cut off, small stumps about 5 cm high are left above the ground. With this pruning, raspberries endure wintering without problems.

The leaves of the bush are large, united by 3 in one branch, with torn edges. The color of the young leaves is dark green, the old ones are green with dark veins.

Thanks to breeders, the thorns of the bush are short, do not prick

“Taganka” is rarely affected by pests; as a preventive measure, raspberries are sprayed with a weak solution of Bordeaux liquid once a month before fruiting. Leaves and branches infected with spider mites or powdery mildew are immediately removed and burned.

“Taganka” tolerates winter well, withstands temperatures down to -20. If the temperature drops below, the raspberries are covered with agrofibre or straw. The shoots are bent to the ground.

To increase fertility, gardeners recommend feeding “Taganka” ammonium nitrate and horse humus. A good fertilizer would be poultry or cow droppings, about 10 buckets per 1 meter of land.

The Taganka raspberry variety is more suitable for home cultivation, it does not require special conditions and pleases with the harvest until autumn.
