As it turns out, opinions are divided, even among experts. Some nutritionists believe that sorbets have no nutritional value, and some of them have some advantages in them and put them on a pedestal over traditional ice cream. I looked at the compositions of several types of sorbets available on the market from various manufacturers. These lineups vary considerably.
According to the definition, a real sorbet should be made of: fruit juice or purée, with the addition of vegetable fat instead of milk fat. The composition also allows the use of additives in the form of: sugar, glucose syrup, stabilizers and emulsifiers.
“Raspberry” or “raspberry” sorbet?
This is a big difference. Raspberry sorbet with raspberry sauce Quatro Sorbetto consists of 30% raspberry juice and only 3% raspberries, and another raspberry sorbet Grycan in the first place gives raspberries 47%. Then, in both types of sorbets, the exchange begins: water, sugar, glucose syrup, thickeners, etc. in Quatro Sorbetto we can also find aromas, and not in Grycan.
Quatro Sorbet – 3% malin:
and for comparison Grycan – 47% raspberries:
Such a slight difference in nomenclature, and diametrical in composition. It is therefore worth paying attention to this.
Sorbet – health or obesity?
The composition of ready-made sorbets, apart from the fruit element, is basically water with sweeteners. Sugar and syrups are in the third place in the list of ingredients. This means that their percentage share in the product is quite large, but not the largest. In addition, there are also naturally occurring sugars from fruit. Calories from carbohydrates in such a sorbet account for up to 97% of the total caloric content of the product. There is practically no protein in sorbets, as is the case with fat.
Sugar and glucose syrup are the main causes of obesity, which Poland is also starting to grapple with. It is therefore recommended to minimize the consumption of refined sugar and glucose-fructose syrup. You can prepare the sorbet yourself without adding sugar from raspberry puree or other fruit, which can be poured into a plastic cup and frozen, resulting in fruit ice cream.
Eating all summer long 3 balls of store sorbets daily in addition to the diet you can gain weight up to 1 kg. There are also more temptations during the summer holidays besides ice cream. So it may turn out that there will be quite a lot of these extra pounds after rest. Eating sorbets from time to time will not be a problem, but including them on a regular basis may not be good for the figure.
