The yield of the Penguin variety is high, about 9 t/ha. Raspberry bushes are compact in size and do not need additional support.

Berries of the Penguin variety are suitable for fresh consumption. Due to the dense structure, raspberries endure long-term storage and transportation. From berries prepare jam, compotes, smoothies or freeze for the winter.

A variety of variety – raspberry Royal Penguin. According to the description, photos and reviews, the raspberry variety Royal Penguin brings larger berries weighing up to 10 g. Up to 10 kg of fruits are harvested from one bush.

Planting raspberries

Raspberry Penguin is planted on a prepared site. When choosing a landing site, light, soil quality and groundwater level are taken into account. Seedlings are purchased from reliable manufacturers or obtained from the original bush.

Selection of seedlings

Penguin seedlings are purchased from nurseries. You should choose healthy specimens with a developed root system.

In the presence of a mother bush, remontant raspberries are propagated in the following ways:

  • root suckers;
  • cuttings;
  • division of the bush.

With self-propagation, raspberry root shoots 10 cm high are dug up. Plants are transplanted into a greenhouse and watered abundantly. After a couple of weeks, when the raspberries take root, they are transplanted to a permanent place.

In autumn, it is more convenient to propagate the Penguin raspberry variety with root cuttings. When loosening, they dig out the root and divide it into strips 8 cm long. The cuttings are placed in furrows to a depth of 7 cm, covered with soil and watered. During the next season, young plants will appear, which are cared for by watering and fertilizing.

When transplanting, Penguin raspberries are dug up with a root, which is divided into parts. Sections are treated with charcoal. The culture is transplanted every 10 years.

Site Preparation

Raspberry Penguin prefers lit places with light fertilized soil. The ripening time and taste of the berries depend on the presence of sunlight. When grown in the shade, the yield drops, and the fruits become less sweet.

Raspberry Penguin does not tolerate stagnant moisture. With a high location of groundwater, the root system is prone to decay. For this reason, raspberries are not located in lowlands where moisture accumulates.

Advice! The culture is not planted after potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, any varieties of raspberries.

Best remontant raspberry Penguin develops in loamy soil. Limestone or dolomite is added to acidic soils. Before growing the main crop, it is recommended to plant green manure on the site: lupine or mustard. 3 months before the work, the plants are dug up and buried in the ground.

In addition to green manure, the soil for raspberries is fertilized with humus in the amount of 2 buckets per 1 sq. m. When digging the soil, 200 g of complex fertilizer based on potassium and phosphorus are applied.

Order of work

Planting work is carried out in autumn at the end of September or early spring. The sequence of work does not depend on the season. Raspberries are planted on a prepared site.

The procedure for planting raspberry varieties Penguin:

  1. First, planting holes are dug with dimensions of 45×45 cm and a depth of 40 cm. A gap of 70 cm is made between the bushes.
  2. The roots of seedlings are placed in a growth stimulator for 2 hours.
  3. The plant is lowered into the pit, the roots are straightened and covered with earth.
  4. The soil is compacted and abundant watering is performed.

Young raspberries are cared for by watering. Mulching with humus helps to maintain soil moisture.

Variety care

Remontant raspberry Penguin needs special care, which allows you to get a high yield. Plants are regularly watered and fed. For the winter, the shoots are pruned. To protect the raspberries from diseases and pests, preventive spraying is carried out.

To give the site a well-groomed appearance, several supports are installed in the raspberries. A wire is pulled between them at a height of 60 cm from the ground.

Frost resistance of the Penguin variety is at an average level. Plants are covered for the winter with mulch and agrofibre. The raspberry variety King Penguin is more resistant, enduring frost without shelter.

Watering

Raspberry Penguin prefers moderate watering. The lack of moisture reduces the yield, and its excess leads to the spread of diseases and slow development of the bush.

For watering raspberries take warm, settled water. Moisture is applied in the morning or evening when there is no direct exposure to the sun.

Important! When watering raspberries, the soil should get wet 35 cm deep.

On average, raspberries are watered every week. In the heat, moisture is added more often. Variety Penguin is characterized by medium drought tolerance and tolerates a short lack of moisture. To reduce the number of irrigations allows mulching the soil with humus or peat.

After watering, loosen the soil so that the root system of the plant has access to oxygen. Be sure to weed the weeds.

Feeding

When fertilizing before planting, Penguin raspberries are provided with nutrients for 2 years. In the future, the culture needs regular feeding.

Spring planting with raspberries Penguin watered with slurry. The composition of the fertilizer includes nitrogen, which contributes to the formation of new shoots. In summer, it is better to abandon nitrogen fertilizers in favor of superphosphate and potassium sulfate.

Advice! For 1 sq. m take 40 g of fertilizers with potassium and phosphorus. Substances are embedded in the soil when loosening or dissolved in water before watering.

From natural fertilizers, bone meal is used in summer. After harvesting, wood ash is scattered between the rows with raspberries.

Trimming

With proper pruning, the yield of the Penguin variety is increased and the risk of developing diseases is reduced. To obtain one plentiful harvest, remontant raspberries are pruned in the fall at the root. Next spring, new shoots will appear, on which the berries will ripen.

To harvest the summer and autumn harvest of raspberries, the Penguin variety must be left with annual shoots. Then, in the spring, frozen and dry branches are cut out. With double fruiting, the plant is subjected to increased stress. Therefore, increased attention is paid to the care of the bushes.

Diseases and pests

The Penguin variety is characterized by an average resistance to major diseases. When using high-quality planting material and observing agricultural technology, plants rarely get sick.

For preventive purposes, in early spring and late autumn, plantings should be sprayed with Oxyx or Topaz preparations.

Raspberries attract caterpillars, weevil, raspberry beetle, spider mites, aphids and other pests. Insects damage plants and carry diseases.

Before flowering, Penguin raspberries are treated with Lepidocid or Aktofit. During flowering and fruiting, chemicals are not used. To protect against pests, raspberries are treated with an infusion of garlic or onion peel.

Reviews of gardeners

Marina, 31 years old, Voronezh
Three years ago, we decided to completely renovate the raspberry garden at their summer cottage. We chose according to the description of the variety, photos and reviews. Raspberry King Penguin attracted with high yield, resistance to diseases and pests. At the top of the shoots there are no thorns, which greatly simplifies harvesting. The taste of the berries is not bad, but there are sweeter varieties. The fruits are large and dense, the drupes are almost not felt. Ideal for processing.
Mikhail, 57 years old, St. Petersburg
According to the description, photos and reviews, the Penguin raspberry variety is one of the favorites in my garden. The bushes are low and strong. The fruits ripen in the second half or at the end of August, depending on weather conditions. It is better to collect them immediately after ripening, if they hang for too long, they lose their presentation. Berry of a beautiful form, not dry. The taste is sour.
Tamara, 44 years old, Kuban
We grow raspberries for harvesting, some of the berries are sent for sale. We were looking for a variety with good commercial qualities, capable of withstanding long transportation. We chose Penguin raspberries according to the variety description, reviews and photos. This is a remontant variety, in our climate the first berries ripen in June. Fruiting lasts until autumn frosts. The berry of the Penguin variety is dense and large, it is easy to collect. The fruits do not wrinkle during transportation. The bush itself is very compact, it does not need support. The variety is suitable for decoration of hedges.

Conclusion

Raspberry Penguin bears fruit early with regular care. Plants are watered, fed and pruned for the winter. The fruits are inferior in taste to other varieties, which is compensated by their appearance and transportability.
