Raspberry Atlant: variety description, photo
Raspberry “Atlant” gives a rich harvest of large tasty fragrant berries. But in order to get it, you need to choose the right place for planting seedlings and follow the rules for caring for the plant.
Description of the raspberry variety “Atlant”
The bush of this raspberry variety is semi-sprawling, medium-sized. It is good to grow it in the temperate climate of central Russia. You can plant seedlings both in autumn and early spring.
Raspberry Atlant has a universal purpose
In the Siberian climate, raspberries should be pruned in the spring. Pruning stimulates the growth of buds, which will freeze in the cold winter.
6-8 shoots are formed on one raspberry plant. The leaves of “Atlanta” are dark green, large, wrinkled. The thorns are located at the bottom of the stem. For the winter, the stems are cut at the root.
The fruits ripen from the second half of August to the end of September. As you can see in the photo of Atlant raspberries, the color of the berries is bright scarlet, and the shape is elongated, conical. The berries are large, with dense pulp, juicy with a delicate sweet and sour taste. The fruits do not crumble and remain on the bush for a long time. At the same time, the taste of raspberries does not change due to weather conditions.
Each bush yields up to 2,5 kg of berries. The fruits of this variety can be eaten fresh, frozen for the winter, made from them jam, compotes, jams.
Advantages and disadvantages of Atlant raspberries
This variety has many advantages:
- Thanks to the dense pulp, the berries are well transported over long distances.
- Due to their long roots, raspberries are able to withstand prolonged drought.
- For the winter, it is cut off at the very ground, so it does not freeze out.
- Raspberries are resistant to most fungal, viral diseases and pests.
- Little growth is formed around the bush, which makes it easier to care for raspberries.
- Ripe fruits are not affected by rot.
- When harvesting, the berry is easily separated from the stalk, but does not disintegrate.
- The variety does not require fertilizing or fertilization.
Due to the large list of positive qualities, this raspberry variety is well suited for cultivation both for industrial purposes and for personal use.
Atlant has several disadvantages:
- Bushes require a garter to support. Under the weight of the berries, they strongly lean to the ground.
- The berry becomes smaller with a lack of moisture.
- The taste of raspberries can be affected by insufficient illumination and thickening of the bushes.
In order not to spoil the taste of the berries, raspberries should be planted in well-lit areas of the garden. When planting seedlings in a row, you must leave a distance between them – 1 m.
Atlant is a proven raspberry variety that has few analogues for cultivation in central Russia. This variety produces a large yield with minimal maintenance. And by eliminating the factors that worsen the taste of the fruit, you can get rid of the deficiencies of the variety.
