Rantudil – drug composition, action and applications

Rantudil is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. It is used in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, pain in the lumbosacral region and to relieve postoperative pains.

The composition of the drug Rantudil

The active substance in Rantudil is acemetacin.

Action of the drug Rantudil

Acemetacin is a non-steroidal substance with strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Rantudil also has an antipyretic effect. Acemetacin inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins that contribute to the development of inflammation.

Indications for the use of the medicinal preparation Rantudil

Rantudil is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, osteoarthritis, pain in the lumbosacral region and to relieve post-operative pain.

Rantudil is also used to treat the symptoms of acute gout attacks.

Contraindications to the use of Rantudil

Rantudil is contraindicated for patients who are allergic to any component of the preparation.

Rantudil should not be used concomitantly with the intake of drugs such as digoxin, lithium preparations, cyclosporine and methotrexate.

The use of Rantudil is contraindicated if the patient has ever had symptoms of allergy to acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, diclofenac.

Rantudil is not indicated for patients with hematopoietic system disorders and suffering from gastric or duodenal ulcer disease.

Rantudil should be used with great caution in patients with hypertension, heart failure, fluid and electrolyte disturbances, fluid retention and edema, in the elderly, suffering from bronchial asthma, Parkinson’s disease or mental disorders, and in patients with epilepsy.

Rantudil should not be taken by pregnant and breastfeeding women. Rantudil is especially contraindicated in the third trimester of pregnancy.

The drug should not be used in children under 14 years of age.

How is Rantudil used?

Rantudil should be taken with meals, washing down the tablet with plenty of liquid, preferably water. The dose and duration of the treatment is determined by the doctor individually for a given case.

The usual dose is 1 capsule of 90 mg of the drug 1-2 times a day.

The maximum dose of Rantudil is 180 mg per day.

Doses of 180 mg of Rantudil per day should not be used for more than 7 days. If symptoms improve, the dose should be reduced as soon as possible.

Side effects of Rantudil

Rantudil may cause side effects such as the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, diseases of the gastrointestinal mucosa, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Gastrointestinal bleeding while taking Rantudil may lead to anemia.

Precautions when taking Rantudil

Rantudil should not be used after the expiry date stated on the package. The preparation should be stored at room temperature, in a tightly closed container, out of the sight and reach of children.

Rantudil may reduce psychomotor integrity and the ability to drive and use machines. The drug may cause drowsiness, visual disturbances, dizziness and tiredness.
