Ranimax 150 – indications, dosage, contraindications, interactions, side effects

Ranimax 150 is used in the symptomatic treatment of stomach ailments unrelated to organic gastrointestinal disease (dyspeptic disorders, heartburn, hyperacidity, epigastric pain). The active substance is ranitidine. The drug is in the form of film-coated tablets and can be obtained without a prescription.

Ranimax 150 – indications and dosage

Ranimax 150 is a drug designed to treat stomach discomfort that is not related to an organic disease of the gastrointestinal tract:

  1. dyspeptic disorders,
  2. heartburn,
  3. hyperacidity,
  4. epigastric pain.

Drug dosage

Ranimax 150 is in the form of film-coated tablets intended for oral use. The preparation should not be used for more than 2 weeks.

  1. Adults and children over 12 years of age. Orally. 150 mg if symptoms occur.
  2. The dose may be repeated if symptoms persist or recur. Dose max. 300 mg / day.

Ranimax 150 and contraindications

There are the following contraindications to taking the drug:

  1. allergy to any ingredient of the preparation,
  2. cirrhosis of the liver with a history of portal hypertension,
  3. use in children up to 12 years of age.

Ranimax 150 – drug restrictions

  1. In patients with gastric ulceration, a neoplasm should be excluded before taking the drug, especially in people who did not have dyspeptic symptoms before.
  2. Taking the drug may mask the symptoms of the cancer and delay diagnosis.
  3. There are the following symptoms of allergy to the preparation: chest tightness, rash, wheezing, itching of the eyelids and face.
  4. Patients taking ranitidine and anticoagulants concomitantly should exercise caution and monitor prothrombin times regularly, as changes have been observed with ranitidine and warfarin intake.
  5. People over 65 are more likely to experience side effects from the nervous system.
  6. Patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency should exercise caution. People on dialysis should take the medicine after the end of dialysis.
  7. Patients with a history of acute porphyria should avoid using the preparation, as it may aggravate the attack of acute porphyria.
  8. Taking the drug is not recommended in case of replacement therapy with pancreatic enzymes or in acute pancreatitis.
  9. The effectiveness of the drug is reduced by smoking.
  10. Patients taking NSAIDs and ranitidine concomitantly should be under medical supervision. This is especially true for elderly patients.
  11. People with hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not take this medicine due to the presence of lactose.
  12. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may take the preparation only after medical consultation and when absolutely necessary.
  13. Treatment with the drug in breastfeeding mothers is not recommended.
  14. The preparation may cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision, therefore people driving motor vehicles and operating machines should be careful as the drug may impair psychophysical fitness.

Ranimax 150 with other medications

  1. Taking this medicine reduces the absorption of ketoconazole and other drugs (e.g. gastro-resistant tablets), the absorption of which depends on the acidity of the stomach. Keep at least 2 hours between the administration of these drugs and the preparation.
  2. Co-administration with warfarin may have an effect on the prothrombin time.
  3. Ranitidine at a dose of 150 mg three times a day or 300 mg once at bedtime in the elderly reduced the excretion rate of warfarin and prolonged the duration of its action.
  4. There was no evidence of an effect of ranitidine on the rate of elimination of varfarin or prothrombin time in middle-aged patients receiving doses from 100 to 400 mg / day.
  5. Ranitidine may inhibit the metabolism of: glipizide, glibenclamide, metoprolol, midazolam, nifedipine, phenytoin, theophylline.
  6. Concomitant use of ranitidine with phenytoin may lead to ataxia.
  7. Antacids do not affect the action of ranitidine, but they prolong the time of its maximum concentration in plasma.

Ranimax 150 – side effects

Taking Ranimax 150 may have the following side effects: taste disturbances, headache, nausea, upper abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, upper respiratory tract infection, confusion, restlessness, hallucinations, visual and auditory hallucinations, decreased heart function (bradycardia), atrioventricular block, increased heart rate (tachycardia ),

  1. hypersensitivity and anaphylactic reactions: (urticaria, angioedema, urticaria with facial edema and laryngospasm, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, bronchospasm, fever, hypotension, rash),
  2. occasionally: gynecomastia, impotence, decreased libido in men, transient increase in liver enzymes, transient hepatitis, transient hypergastrinaemia, increased creatinine levels, leukopenia, granulocytopenia, thrombocytopenia.
