Random List in Excel

This article will teach you how to create a random (shuffled) list in Excel. For example, we want to create a random list in a column А (see picture below):

  1. Highlight a cell V1 and paste the function SLCHIS (RAND).
  2. Pinch the bottom right corner of the cell B1 and stretch it down to V8.
  3. Click on any number from the list in the column B.
  4. On the Advanced tab Data (Data) click the button Z-A (ZA) or AND I (A-Z).

Result: Random list in column А (more precisely, a list that is sorted by random numbers from a column B):

Note: The random numbers change each time Excel performs a recalculation on the worksheet. If you don’t want this, just copy the random numbers and paste them as values.
