Kevin Grant, founder and owner of the Zia Taqueria chain of Mexican restaurants located in South Carolina, is known as a big fan of good tequila and the author of many original cocktails from it. However, he firmly believes that all tequila is good, otherwise the drink is simply not worthy of that name.
Mr. Grant honestly admits that he is no stranger to some snobbery. He will never even pick up a bottle of tequila, on the label of which there are two magic inscriptions: “Hecho en México” (“Made in Mexico”) and “100% Agave”.
When the owner of Zia Taqueria was offered to taste Rancho Alegre Reposado, the master shrugged incredulously and frankly stated that a decent tequila aged in an oak barrel could not be so cheap. However, after tasting the drink, Kevin Grant admitted that he had been mistaken all his life: it turns out that inexpensive, but high-quality tequila really exists.
Productos Finos De Agave was founded in 1996. Its owners are Mexican businessmen who have set a goal: the production of world-class high-quality tequila.
The distillery, owned by Productos Finos De Agave, is located in the small town of Jesus Maria, in the state of Jalisco, where they grow the best blue agave in Mexico.
The first Rancho Alegre tequila was released in 2004. Buyers immediately appreciated its unusually mild taste with a hint of citrus. The relatively low price of the drink is explained by the fact that the distillery where it is produced is equipped with the latest equipment. Modern technologies make it possible to extract the maximum of precious juice from the agave.
This tequila has won many awards at international exhibitions. Rancho Alegre Blanco won first place in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2015. Rancho Alegre Reposado has won gold medals in this competition twice: in 2010 and 2015. She was also awarded the Beverage Testing Institute in 2010.
Types of tequila Rancho Alegre
Productos Finos De Agave produces three varieties of Rancho Alegre tequila with a strength of 40%. All of them are made from 100% blue agave alcohol:
- Rancho Alegre Blanco is a young colorless tequila with the smell of agave, lemon peel and nuts. The taste of the drink is soft, slightly sweet, with a spicy pepper bitterness in the aftertaste;
- Rancho Alegre Gold is a young tequila with a copper sheen, to which a little sugarcane syrup is added. As a result, it acquires a caramel-floral aroma and honey flavor;
- Rancho Alegre Reposado is an amber golden tequila aged for two months in white oak barrels. It smells of coffee, tropical fruits and caramel. The rich taste of agave is effectively complemented by mineral-mushroom shades, the aftertaste is silky, with coconut and cherry notes.
