Ramson: how to grow, planting

Ramson is healthy and has a specific taste reminiscent of garlic, which adds originality to dishes. In fact, this is a wild onion. Therefore, when growing it on its site, it will not require attention to itself, it will grow well without leaving.

For this plant, the most abandoned place in the garden, closest to nature, is suitable – in the shade of trees or a fence, under a house or other structure, next to tall bushes.

Ramson goes well with all vegetables and perfectly complements salads

You can allocate a separate bed for her, but it should be a cool and humid place, always shaded. In the sun, the plant loses its beneficial properties and taste.

An area where rainwater constantly collects or groundwater passes close to it is not suitable for cultivation. In this case, drainage can be done to avoid excess moisture.

Ramson can be constantly grown in one place, so you need to immediately saturate the soil with organic fertilizers, best of all with humus. The plant does not tolerate acidic soils.

And a few more rules for successful breeding of wild garlic:

  • In a drought, the plant needs to be watered;
  • Add rotten leaves on top of the garden bed – they will serve as fertilizer and preserve soil moisture;
  • Make sure that weeds do not interfere with the growth and development of plants.

Wild onions are disease resistant, and insects usually stay away from them. If the leaves are damaged, you need to water the garden with salt solution in the evening, and in the morning rinse it out of the watering can.

Planting can be done with bulbs, but this method yields a less abundant crop. Better to plant with seeds. Under natural conditions, they ripen early – in July. They crumble and wait for their time, not sprouting until next spring. Therefore, you can sow seeds in your garden in the summer or early September. We carry out the landing as follows:

  1. After preparing the soil – digging and fertilizing – we make grooves no more than 5 cm deep. The distance between the rows is 20 cm;
  2. We pour the seeds into the furrows – 10 g per 1 sq. m;
  3. We fill them with peat from above, then earth;
  4. If there are few seeds, they can be planted in seedling pots and buried with them in the garden bed.

You can sow seeds without furrows, but then there is a great risk of washing them off by natural waters or during irrigation.

There are some tips on how to increase yields:

  • Do not cut leaves from nearby bushes. The bulbs will not be able to get enough nutrition from the soil, the leaves will be weak and small. Some plants may even die;
  • In the spring, before the snow melts, sprinkle the bed with urea. This is an excellent fertilizer for bulbs, thanks to which they will give juicy and large greens;
  • The seeds are harvested from ripe fruits that have not yet opened. Fresh seeds have the best germination, so self-seeding is the most effective option.

After planting, constant moisture is required, but not abundant – due to excess moisture, the roots can rot and the plant will die. Make sure that wheatgrass and nettles do not settle in the garden – they are very harmful. Weed as needed.
