It is a preparation containing amoxicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, as well as clavulanic acid, a compound that inhibits the work of bacterial enzymes that contribute to the breakdown of amoxicillin. It is intended for general use in the treatment of bacterial infections.

Ramoclav – indications

Infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract (tonsillitis, sinusitis, middle ear inflammation, chronic bronchitis and pneumonia), urinary tract infections (urethritis and cystitis, pyelonephritis), skin and soft tissue infections, systemic infections.

Ramoclav – contraindications

Hypersensitivity to the active substances, to any of the penicillins or to any of the excipients of the medicine. Having had a severe immediate reaction in the past hypersensitivity to another beta-lactam drug. History of jaundice or liver dysfunction caused by amoxicillin or clavulanic acid. Use during pregnancy unless considered essential by your doctor. Amoxicillin with clavulanic acid should only be used during breast-feeding after a physician has assessed the benefit / risk ratio.

Ramoclav – dosage

The doctor selects individually dose to the patient, depending on the severity of the infection, its type, sensitivity of microorganisms and the patient’s condition. In the preparation, amoxicillin and clavulanic acid are present in the ratio of 7: 1

Generalized rules dosing recommended by doctors:

  1. adults and children weighing more than 40 kg – take the basic dose in all indications: 1 g (875 mg + 125 mg) twice a day,
  2. Increased dose, administered in diseases such as otitis media, sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections and urinary tract infections: 1 g (875 mg + 125 mg) 3 times a day.

Children weighing less than 40 kg:

  1. the usual recommended dose is (25 mg + 3,6 mg) / kg body weight per day to (45 mg + 6,4 mg) / kg body weight per day in 2 divided doses,
  2. an increased dose recommended in otitis media, sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infection is (70 mg + 10 mg) / kg body weight per day in 2 divided doses.

Preparation in the form of tablets can not be applied by children weighing less than 25 kg as the tablets cannot be divided. In this group of patients, an oral suspension should be used.

Patients with renal failure use doses depending on the degree of impairment of renal function. If the creatinine clearance is greater than 30 ml / min, no change is required thosei. If it is less than 30 ml / min, preparations containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in the proportion of 7: 1 should not be used.

Patients with hepatic impairment should exercise extreme caution in treatment and regular monitoring of liver function.

The duration of treatment is determined by a specialist, but the drug should not be used for more than 14 days without consulting the doctor again.

Ramoclav – possible side effects

Diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, nausea, yeast superinfections (oral and vaginal candidiasis), increased levels of liver enzymes in the blood, measles-like rash, urticaria, hepatitis, pseudomembranous enteritis, hyperactivity, restlessness, sleep disturbances, balance disorders and convulsions (in patients with with renal insufficiency or receiving high doses of the preparation).

If the drug is there applied according to the doctor’s regulations, it will not affect the psychophysical fitness, or the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.

Inform the doctor

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients of the drug, gastrointestinal problems, vomiting, diarrhea, asthma, phenylketonuria. Also tell your doctor if you are taking bacteriostatic chemotherapy or antibiotics (tetracyclines, macrolides, sulfonamides), probenecid, allopurinol, sulfasalazine, methotrexate, digoxin, disulfiram, anticoagulants, hormonal contraceptives.
