According to “Dziennik Zachodni”, the Excalate4CoV consortium, financed by the European Union, has selected another drug that may be effective in the fight against COVID-19. It could be used to treat people with mild coronavirus infection. Will raloxifene be used to treat COVID-19?

New drug for SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus

Scientists around the world are still looking for effective drugs to fight COVID-19. WHO conducts extensive research into the most promising therapies. Now another contestant may enter the game – a drug called raloxifene. It is a generic drug approved for the treatment of osteoporosis, which may also prove effective in the treatment of patients with mild COVID-19.

The Excalate4CoV consortium, which is funded by the EU, has tested over 400 data sheets using supercomputers. drug substance molecules and grouped them according to their effectiveness in the fight against coronavirus. Initially 7 thousand. molecules that were then tested in-vitro. Among these particles is raloxifene, which has been described as “promising” in activity.

Note:

There are currently no clinical trials to support the effectiveness of raloxifene in fighting COVID-19. Misuse of this medication may be hazardous to your health.

According to the authors of the study, the drug is intended for the treatment of osteoporosis could effectively block virus replication in cells, thus preventing the development of the disease. According to scientists, the advantages of this drug are good patient tolerance, safety and a tested toxicological profile.

Continuation of research and evaluation of a new drug for the coronavirus

Raloxifene has a long way to go before it becomes recognized as a drug that helps fight the mild form of COVID-19 in patients. Excalate4CoV will discuss with the European Medicines Agency on how to continue clinical trials to evaluate its new potential use.
