Advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

Disadvantages

Early maturity

The plant does not develop well on heavy, saline and acidic soils.

High degree of productivity and marketability of the hybrid variety of radish Celeste: simultaneous ripening, uniformity of root crops, attractive appearance, pleasant expected taste

Soil fertility requirements depending on predecessor crops. Plant development and yield drops sharply if the area was previously occupied by any kind of cabbage and other cruciferous representatives, as well as beets or carrots

Easy care. A hybrid variety of radish Celeste is grown in open ground and in greenhouses

Demanding sufficient watering, but without waterlogging

Transportability and duration of storage of root crops of the Celeste hybrid

Resistance of radish Celeste to bolting and flowering

Hybrid Celeste is not susceptible to peronosporosis

Advice! Autumn harvest of radishes can be stored for up to 2 weeks in the basement. The roots of the Celeste hybrid are placed in wooden boxes on a layer of sand or sawdust.

Preparation of seeds for sowing

Having bought the seeds of the Celeste hybrid in branded packaging from the manufacturer, they are simply sown in the soil. Raw seeds are recommended to be prepared and disinfected. Many gardeners have their own methods of processing radish seeds before sowing. The most popular is soaking in hot water or potassium permanganate.

  • Radish seeds in a gauze bag are placed in a container with hot water: not more than 50 оC for 15-20 minutes;
  • Soak in a pink solution of potassium permanganate, also for 15-20 minutes;
  • Then the seeds are dried and sown;
  • In order for the grains to germinate faster, they are kept for 24-48 hours in a damp cloth in a warm place;
  • For the successful development of the Celeste variety, soaking seeds in solutions of growth stimulants is practiced according to the instructions.

Peculiarities of growing

Celeste F1 radish is cultivated for spring and late summer or autumn sowing. Best of all, the plant bears fruit on loose sandy soils with a neutral acidity reaction – 6,5-6,8 Ph. In the areas that were occupied by other root crops last year, radishes are not planted. Those gardeners who prefer to apply mineral fertilizers adhere to the recommended rate per 1 sq. m: 20 g of superphosphate, 100 g of potassium sulfate, 30 g of potassium magnesia, 0,2 g of boron. Fertilize the soil with humus – 10 kg per 1 sq. m.

In open ground

Radishes are sown on the plot in April or until mid-May in still moist soil. As a seasonal autumn vegetable, Celeste radish begins to be grown in late July or August, depending on the climatic conditions of the regions.

  • Grooves for sowing are made after 10-12 cm. The seeds are laid out at intervals of 4-5 cm to a depth of 2 cm. On dense soils, they deepen only 1-1,5 cm;
  • Holes for seeds are also marked with the help of seedling cassettes, where the bottoms are located according to the scheme 5 x 5 cm;
  • Watering is carried out regularly so that the soil does not dry out, about 10 liters per 1 sq. m, if watered daily;
  • Feed 2 weeks after germination with infusion of chicken manure in a ratio of 1:15, watering between rows.
Important! Both in spring and summer, after sowing, the bed with the Celeste variety is covered with lutrasil for better germination and protection from the spring fly.

In the greenhouse

In closed ground conditions, Celeste radish is sown in winter or at the end of March, beginning of April. You need to take care of making humus for plowing.

  • In the heat, radishes are watered daily at 5-7 liters per square meter;
  • In cloudy wet weather, it is enough to water with the same rate once every 2-3 days;

A week and a half after germination, the Celeste hybrid is fertilized with a solution of mullein: 200 g per 10 liters of water, adding 1 teaspoon of urea.

Attention! Radish beds are mulched with chopped straw mixed with humus.
Planted radishes on December 27, fertilizing the soil.

Growing problems

Problem

Causes

Celeste radish roots are small, coarse, fibrous

Late sowing: at temperatures above 22 ° C, radish develops worse. Lack of moisture in the top layer of soil in the first 2 weeks of root crop growth

The plant shoots

At the beginning of growth, during the first 10-15 days the weather is below 10 oC or above 25 oC. Seeds sown too thick

Too dense and hard roots

After rains or irregular watering, a crust has formed on the bed

Radish Celeste bitter

The plant developed too long due to non-compliance with the rules of agricultural technologies: poor soil, lack of watering

Diseases and pests

The hybrid variety of radish Celeste has developed immunity against many diseases. Gardeners note that he practically does not get sick. Only through a violation of the rules of irrigation can fungal rot develop.

Evidence

Control measures and prevention

White rot occurs with excess moisture at temperatures above 22 ° C

Root browning, soft tissues with white spots

The radish is removed. Root crops are not sown in the garden for 3 years. In the greenhouse, the soil is disinfected

Gray rot appears with excess moisture and a temperature of 15-18 ° C

Gray spots on brown spots

Every autumn, all plant debris should be carefully removed, crop rotation should be observed

Viral mosaic is carried by aphids and weevils

The leaves are covered with patterned spots. The plant does not grow

There is no cure. Prophylactically follow the recommendations for growing

Actinomycosis develops in hot and dry weather

Brown dots and spots that turn into growths on the root

Crop rotation

The black leg occurs more often in the greenhouse when the soil and air are waterlogged

The plant rots at the base. The whole crop may die

Regular watering without excess, ventilation, crop rotation

cabbage flea

Leaves of young plants in holes. Seedlings may die

Dusting with wood ash and ground pepper. The latest folk invention: spraying with Beam shampoo, which is designed to fight fleas in dogs (50-60 ml per 10 liters of water)

Radish Celeste F1

Conclusion

A hybrid is a profitable solution for home gardening. Harvest with minimal care, which includes loosening the soil and regular moderate watering, is ensured. The first spring root vegetables diversify the family menu.

Hybrid Celeste is a wonderful radish. I buy seeds all the time. If I come across non-branded ones, I will definitely disinfect them. I can say that after sowing Celeste, a fresh and juicy radish will definitely be on the table.

Radish Celeste is sown in a small greenhouse. There is enough light for the plant, it does not stretch. Her leaves are small, and the last radishes grow from an egg, but are dense. I try to always water on time.
