Doctor of Psychology Rada Granovskaya sets herself an extremely difficult task: to look at faith from the point of view of its impact on the inner world, consciousness and unconscious of a person. In the first, most part of the book, the main world religions are consistently considered (canonical works, the image of the founder, rites, rituals …). The second part deals with the psychological aspects of the impact of religion on a person’s personality. A scheme of the hierarchical structure of mental processes (Model of the World) is proposed, and it is shown how this model can change under the influence of faith. The degree of a person’s initiation to faith is predetermined primarily by his main individual characteristics, such as gender, age, temperament, the author claims. A separate chapter is devoted to the cardinal differences in the influence of world religions and totalitarian sects on the human psyche; the author analyzes what happens to a person if the will of a person is suppressed, and the whole picture of the world is replaced by fear of the near end of the world and the persecution of the “excommunicated”. “World religions have significant potential for development, and their difference is an indispensable condition for the flourishing of mankind, representing to each person the fullness of freedom of choice,” Rada Granovskaya concludes, admitting that she was prompted to write this book by “the thirst for civil harmony between people of different nationalities and religions.
