Pyruvine peeling

Each time has its own heroes: once upon a time, glycolic peeling was at the peak of popularity, then salicylic peeling seized the championship, then milk peeling. Today, as practice shows, pyruvic peeling is in trend. We will not lag behind fashion and talk about it in detail.

What is pyruvic peeling?

Pyruvic facial peeling is a chemical peeling procedure, which is performed with a preparation based on pyruvic acid. By the way, this acid is found in the human body, so it is not completely foreign to the skin. Getting on its surface, the substance evenly penetrates the epidermis, quickly causing a response.

Pyruvine peeling has a rather mild effect on the skin, actively renews it, but does not dry it out. Both young and mature skin can benefit from this procedure. Perhaps the only drawback of pyruvic acid peeling is a specific unpleasant odor.

What effect can be expected from the procedure?

According to our expert, dermatologist Maria Nevskaya, pyruvic peeling is “ideal for people of any age with thick seborrheic skin (increased oil content) and hyperkeratosis (rough surface).”

In cosmetology, pyruvic acid is valued for its ability to stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin fibers, which makes the skin dense and elastic.

After a course of pyruvic peeling (4 procedures once every 10 days), the skin becomes:

  • smooth;

  • elastic;

  • moistened;

  • shining.

We summarize the indications for pyruvic peeling:

  • increased greasiness of the skin;

  • acne;

  • uneven terrain;

  • hyperkeratosis – thickening of the stratum corneum;

  • roughness and dullness;

  • loss of elasticity;

  • wrinkles;

  • uneven tone and hyperpigmentation.

Types of pyruvic peeling and indications for use

As part of preparations, pyruvic acid can act as the only peeling agent or be combined with other acids (salicylic, glycolic, lactic) to enhance one or another effect. Classical pyruvic peeling refers to superficial procedures, that is, it exfoliates only the surface layers of the epidermis.

To influence deeper, including dermal structures, the drug can be applied in several layers. Their number determines the depth of peeling with pyruvic acid:

  1. one layer, superficial peeling, suitable for young oily skin;

  2. two layers, superficial median pyruvic peeling, recommended for mature skin with hyperkeratosis and slight signs of chrono- and photoaging;

  3. three layers, median pyruvic peeling, usually prescribed after 40 years with pronounced signs of skin aging.

Preparing the skin for peeling with pyruvic acid

As mentioned above, this peeling is relatively non-aggressive, therefore, to ensure the most effective exfoliation of horny scales, a two-week pre-peeling preparation is required. It consists in the use of home care products with a small amount of acids, which will help to slightly loosen the stratum corneum and ensure uniform penetration of the peeling preparation.

Pyruvine peeling: procedure protocol

The protocol for pyruvic peeling is standard for such procedures, with minor nuances.

  1. The skin is cleansed and degreased.

  2. The drug is applied to the face (and, if necessary, the neck) with a brush – you need to be prepared for a slight tingling and a rather pungent odor.

  3. Peeling is aged for about 15 minutes, the exposure time is individual, the cosmetologist monitors the skin reaction.

  4. Peeling is neutralized with the help of special preparations and washed off.

  5. A gel with moisturizing and soothing ingredients is applied to the face.

Is it possible to do pyruvic peeling at home?

Pyruvine peeling is an exclusively professional procedure, and trying to do it at home without the knowledge and experience of a beautician is a bad and dangerous idea.

To renew the skin at home, you can use cosmetics containing acids:

  • salicylic – for oily skin;

  • glycolic – for dull;

  • retinol – to combat age-related changes.

Facial skin care after pyruvic acid peeling

After pyruvic peeling (at least superficially), the face peels off for only a couple of days, but it takes more time for the skin to fully recover.

As noted by Garnier expert Marina Kamanina, the skin condition after peeling is characterized by increased sensitivity due to a violation of the integrity of the epidermis.

“The skin after peeling becomes smoother, more even, the complexion more uniform, but the flip side of these changes is a tendency to increased dryness, irritation and, with active sun, hyperpigmentation. All this is due to the fact that after such aggressive effects, the skin needs to recover. Therefore, care requires special attention and, possibly, adjustments to the usual routine. ”

Water-based cleansers are best replaced with waterless cleansers, such as micellar water, which was originally developed for people with sensitive and damaged skin.

It is especially important to remember that after peeling, not only the thickness of the stratum corneum, which performs a protective function, is significantly reduced, but also the ability of the skin to withstand environmental factors, including increased dryness of air in rooms with central heating, and exposure to ultraviolet radiation.

Therefore, during the rehabilitation period after any peeling, legibility in the choice of care products is important. It is recommended to give preference to moisturizing creams with a light texture, which, on the one hand, will provide a sufficient level of moisture, and on the other hand, will not interfere with the exfoliation process.
