Pyrrolam is a drug that has found application in the field of dermatology. Its main purpose is to fight fungi, however, fungal infection is not a single indication for the use of Pyrrolam. Pyrrolam – how does it work?
The active substance of Pirolam is ciclopirox olamine, which has antifungal activity. It is a synthetic drug that fights dermatophytes, yeast-like fungi, molds, as well as mixed fungi and some gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Ciclopirox with olamine penetrates the hair follicles, epidermis and sebaceous glands into the skin, inhibiting the activity of multiplying fungi.

Pyrrolam is available on the pharmaceutical market in four forms:
- Solution for the skin Pirolam;
- Cutaneous suspensions Pirolam;
- Pyrolam gel;
- Pirolam medicated nail polish.

Pyrrolam – the composition of the drug
In the cutaneous solution, pyrrolam is found in addition to ciclopirox with olamine two excipients: absolute ethanol F and isopropyl myristate.
The excipients in the cutaneous suspension Pirolam are:
- Propylene glycol;
- Benzyl alcohol;
- Liquid paraffin;
- Cetostearyl alcohol;
- Lactic acid;
- Macrogol cetostearyl ether;
- Purified Water.
The Pirolam gel consists of propylene glycol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, ethanol 96%, glycerol, carbomer, trolamine and purified water.
Pirolam medicated nail polish contains isopropyl alcohol; and a polymer of methoxyethylene with 2-butenedioic acid monobutyl ester.
Pyrrolam – the main indications for use
The drug Pirolam is used in the treatment of mycosis, in particular:
- Smooth skin mycosis – can occur all over the body. It takes the form of red spots most often on the neck or face;
- Ringworm – yellowish scabs may appear on the skin that are stuck into the skin, and the skin around the foci tends to peel off;
- Mycosis of the feet – most often located between the toes. The pathological changes are vesicular;
- Shoot mycosis – lumps appear in the area of the hair follicles, and the hair itself is broken.
Pyrrolam treats mycosis caused by the following fungi:
- Trichophyton rubrum;
- Trichophyton mentagrophytes;
- Epidermophyton floccosum;
- Microsporum canis;
- Microsporum gypseum;
- Candida albicans;
- Candida tropicalis;
- Candida krusei;
- Candida parapsilosis;
- Cryptococcus neoformans;
- Aspergillus fumigatus;
- Malassezia furfur.
Pirolam gel – how to use?
Pirolam gel should be used only as directed by a doctor or as agreed in the drug leaflet. It should be applied only to the affected skin a maximum of two times a day.
Despite the resolution of symptoms, the gel should still be used so that the disease does not come back. The optimal period of using Pirolam gel is three weeks.

Cutaneous solution and suspension Pirolam – use
Like other forms of Pirolam, both the cutaneous solution and suspension should be used according to the doctor’s instructions or the information on the leaflet. Before using it, wash the affected area thoroughly, and then spray it with the solution from a distance of about 10 cm. The fluid can be rubbed into the skin or left to dry.
The solution should be used twice a day until the lesions disappear, and then spray the skin prophylactically so that remission does not occur. After spraying the lesions, you need to wash your hands thoroughly.
Pirolam medicated nail polish – how to use it?
The drug Pirolam varnish can be used only by adults, according to the doctor’s instructions or the information included in the leaflet. Before the patient starts to lubricate the nails with varnish, remove the largest possible surface of the nail with scissors (they can be replaced with clippers or a nail file). Then you need to disinfect the used items.

Before painting the tile with varnish, wash your feet or hands thoroughly with soap and water, then dry them and disinfect them with an alcohol swab. Only after performing these activities, you can paint the diseased tiles with varnish. The process is best repeated every other day. Due to the fact that the treatment of mycosis lasts from several months to several years, the period of using Pirolam medicinal varnish may be extended.
Pyrrolam – recommended precautions
Pyrrolam can cause swelling, so before using the drug, it is worth making an allergic test by applying the product to the arm to check if there is an adverse allergic reaction. If it persists, see your doctor to change your treatment for ringworm. In addition, remember not to scratch itchy diseased areas.
If mycosis affects the feet, first of all, avoid walking in moisture-impermeable shoes. This aspect also applies to clothes. In addition, contact with the eyes should be avoided when using Pirolam. During daily care, you should completely avoid acid soaps, which can lead to the multiplication of fungi.
Pyrrolam – who should be careful?
Among the diseases that increase the risk of ringworm are:
- Diabetes;
- Peripheral circulation disorders;
- Immune disorders;
- Psoriasis;
- Other chronic skin diseases.

Pyrrolam – contraindications
The main contraindication to the use of Pirolam is hypersensitivity to ciclopirox with olamine or other excipients of the drug. In addition, Pyrolam should not be used by people who have been diagnosed with fungal infections of the eye, its surroundings or vagina. Children under six years of age should not use the drug as it has not been adequately tested in this age group.

- Skin irritation;
- Itching;
- Erythema;
- Allergic contact dermatitis.
Pyrrolam – how to store?
Pyrrolam should be kept out of the reach of children. It is best to choose a high-placed cabinet in a room where the temperature does not exceed 25 degrees C. It should be remembered that although the expiry date of the drug may be up to two years, after opening it can only be used for a period of three months.
