Pyralginum GSK

Pyralginum GSK is a drug used for pain of various origins of high intensity, including spastic pain (e.g. renal or biliary colic), when the use of other drugs is contraindicated or ineffective, and high fever that does not disappear after administration of other drugs.

Pyralginum GSK – action

Pyralginum GSK is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is a derivative of pyrazolone. The active substance of the drug is metamizole sodium, which has an analgesic, antipyretic and diastolic effect.

Pyraliginum GSK, indications and dosage

Pyralginum GSK is a pain relieving drug of various genesis and intensity. The drug in the form of suppositories has a soothing effect on:

  1. spastic pains (renal colic, biliary),
  2. high fever (which persists after taking medication).

Dosage

The drug is in the form of rectal suppositories and should be used as directed.

  1. Adults. Rectally. 1 suppository at a time, the dose can be repeated if necessary, max. 3 suppositories / d.

Pyralginum GSK and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Pyralginum GSK are:

  1. hypersensitivity to metamizole, pyrazolone derivatives (e.g. aminophenazone, propyphenazone, phenylbutazone) or any component of the preparation,
  2. hepatic porphyria,
  3. bronchial asthma,
  4. glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,
  5. disorders of the hematopoietic function of the bone marrow,
  6. abnormal blood counts (agranulocytosis, leukopenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia),
  7. pregnancy,
  8. the period of breastfeeding,
  9. acute renal or hepatic failure,
  10. parallel use of pyrazolone derivatives.

Pyralginum GSK and warnings

  1. Consult your doctor if symptoms persist after 2 days.
  2. There is a risk of arganulocytosis (rare).
  3. It should not be used for more than a week and should be limited to cases where other painkillers do not work.
  4. In the event of fever, sore throat or mouth ulcers, discontinue treatment with the preparation immediately and consult a physician.
  5. Patients with renal impairment and heart failure should exercise caution due to the risk of sodium and water retention.
  6. Caution should be exercised in people with hypotension (systolic blood pressure <100 mm Hg).
  7. Menopausal women should exercise caution.
  8. Elderly patients should be careful.
  9. People with liver failure, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer should also exercise caution.
  10. The drug may delay blood clotting.
  11. There are no data on driving when using the drug.

Pyralginum GSK with other drugs

  1. Pyralginum GSK enhances the effect of coumarin derivative anticoagulants.
  2. The drug intensifies oral antidiabetic preparations, phenytoin, sulphonamide preparations and intensifies the side effects of methotrexate.
  3. Pyralginum GSK may decrease the blood concentration of cyclosporine as well as the excretion of furosemide.
  4. The preparation has no effect on the diuretic effect of furosemide.
  5. When combined with chlorpromazine, it can cause severe hypothermia.
  6. MAO inhibitors intensify, and barbiturates weaken the effect of the preparation.

Pyralginum GSK and side effects

  1. The following may occur: anemia, thrombocytopenia, reduction in the number of white blood cells (including agranulocytosis), nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache and dizziness, liver and kidney dysfunction (including acute renal failure, nephritis with papillary necrosis), hypersensitivity reactions (rash, urticaria, erythema, dermatitis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exacerbation of asthma symptoms, angioedema, anaphylactic shock). The preparation inhibits the excretion of water and sodium from the body, which may cause peripheral edema. Occasionally (even after a single dose) bone marrow hematopoietic damage leading to death.
