PV Iodine is a preparation used to prevent and treat infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses, and to disinfect wounds, especially superficial wounds after minor surgery, small-area burns, scabs and ulcers, especially on the lower leg.

PV Iodine – indications and dosage
PV Iodine is a preparation used in:
- preventing and treating infections of the skin and mucous membranes caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses (e.g. impetigo, purulent and seborrheic inflammations, boils, fungal eruptions, especially in the interdigital spaces, dandruff of the scalp),
- decontamination of uranium, especially superficial after minor surgical procedures,
- small burn surfaces,
- in the treatment of scabs and ulcers, especially on the legs.
Dosage
PV Iodine is a cream that is applied topically to the skin. The preparation should not be used for more than 14 days. Can be used under an occlusive dressing.
- Topically applied to the skin 1-2 × / day.
PV Iodine and contraindications
Contraindications to the use of PV Iodine are:
- hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation,
- thyroid dysfunction and disease,
- kidney failure
- use by children up to 2 years of age,
- long-term use on large areas of the body (> 30%),
- use in chronically ill patients and in people treated in parallel with lithium salts.
PV Iodine – warnings
- Avoid contact with the eyes during use.
- Caution should be exercised when using in children, as iodine penetrating the skin poses a risk of its accumulation.
- The use of PV Iodine may affect laboratory test results (e.g. thyroid function) and may also cause false positive results in faecal occult blood tests.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women may use the preparation only on the recommendation of a doctor and if necessary. Use during this period may cause disturbances in the development and function of the thyroid gland in newborns.
- During breastfeeding, the drug should not be used to disinfect the nipples.
PV Iodine with Other Drugs
- PV Iodine should not be used in people taking lithium preparations at the same time.
- Do not use simultaneously with other drugs applied to the skin.
- It should not be used with preparations containing mercury, with sodium thiosulfate and with alkaline drugs due to the risk of interactions.
PV Iodine – side effects
While taking PV Iodine, the following may occur:
- local skin hypersensitivity reactions,
- application to large areas of wounds and burns (over 30% of the body surface) may lead to the occurrence of: metabolic acidosis (vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid breathing),
- high levels of sodium in the blood
- impaired kidney function.
Discontinue treatment and contact your doctor if these symptoms occur.
