Pustular psoriasis develops more often in women than in men. It is a rare form of psoriasis, unfortunately one of the more severe types of it can be life-threatening. The disease manifests itself as pus-filled vesicles of 2-3 mm. The pustules can appear all over the body or on the skin in some area, such as in the hands and feet. What are the causes of the onset of the disease?

Pustular psoriasis – causes

Factors causing pustular psoriasis are: untreated infections, jaundice, pregnancy (if psoriasis occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy, it is a threat to the developing baby), stress, tooth decay, alcoholism, smoking, excessive sunbathing, hypocalcemia. Pustular psoriasis is characterized by dryness and peeling of the skin, usually accompanied by inflammation. Painful pimples appear on the skin. The skin lesions affect the hands, soles of the feet, the skin between the fingers, the thumb and the fifth finger. Unfortunately, it happens that painful pustules appear under the nail, and this may result in the loss of the nail. The disease is troublesome and difficult to cure completely. The patient takes external medications in the form of ointments, as well as internal medications, immunosuppressants, retinoids and antibiotics. Sick areas should be irradiated, ultraviolet light inhibits the development of psoriasis. Irradiation with LED lamps and photochemotherapy can be used. The effect of reducing the changes and withdrawing them will be visible only after 20 treatments.

Pustular psoriasis of the hand

Psoriasis is a disease that causes the immune system to malfunction. Palm pustular psoriasis is a disease that mainly affects women between the ages of 50 and 60. Like psoriasis, pustular psoriasis can occur due to environmental or genetic factors. Sometimes the disease appears as a result of taking drugs such as: antidepressants, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs. Drugs used to treat this disease can cause undesirable side effects, especially corticosteroids are responsible for the worsening of skin lesions, alopecia, muscle and joint pain, elevated bilirubin and elevated cholesterol levels. Women of childbearing age suffering from psoriasis should take birth control pills in parallel, as treatment with retinoids is not recommended during pregnancy.

Generalized pustular psoriasis

This is the most severe form of psoriasis. Characteristic skin lesions appear all over the body, usually only the face. Reddening of the skin appears and the epidermis sags due to rubbing of the skin (Nikolski’s symptom). The sick person, apart from pus-filled pimples, suffers from headache, fever, nausea, general malaise, joint pain, and sometimes chills. The fluid in the tuples is sterile, so there are no bacteria in it, but there are white blood cells. In generalized pustular psoriasis, spots can appear all over the body within XNUMX hours. Pustular psoriasis may coexist with skin lesions typical of other types of psoriasis. Usually, the dermatologist recognizes the disease just after examining the lesions. Since generalized pustular psoriasis is very serious, it should be treated in a hospital setting.
